Asimov's Foundation - Apple TV Friday!

These visual adaptations of generation-spanning, multi-volume, deep plot novels always make me nervous.

Its sooooooo easy to mess things up, and then you've spent years of time, money and effort for.....

Nothing.

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

Yep. Think they may have nailed it though. At least it looks that way from the three trailers I watched last night.

Crossing fingers I won't be proven wrong.

Also looking forward to this one, and also a bit worried.

I think the main challenge is that so much of the content in books like the Foundation series is not directly translatable to on screen action or events.

However, the core concept of the books could not possibly be more relevant in today's age of big data, machine learning, and predictive behavioral forecasting - as usual for Asimov. You have to wonder if he had access to a time machine at this point.

Kudos to the producers for taking a risk and fingers crossed!

Yeah, I think it will be somewhat different than the books. Has to be, TV is a different medium to books. Hari Seldon has a much bigger role than in the books I believe.

Apple TV? Never heard of that one! I just want to know when it will come to Amazon Prime.

I'll take a pass on this series for several reasons, among which is no desire to pay $4.99/month for the service. But the chief reason is oddly enough the gender-flipping that's being done. That just seems strange...

As I recall Asimov had essentially zero females in the Foundation series, and almost no 'action sequences' for that matter. It is mostly cerebral dialog between two or more individuals, and that simply doesn't lend itself to any form of screen time, unlike Frank Hebert's Dune series that are almost all "action sequences!"

Fair enough if you don't want to pay. But as its a contemporary TV series, maybe we shouldn't be dismissing it before even seeing it because it's not identical to the book.

I will be judging it for what it is, accepting it's "based on" rather than a carbon copy of the books,  by necessity, and have my cat points ready to award.

Forget the books I say. 😁

Apple TV is pretty good to be honest. Gets a bit bonkers if we have to keep signing up for multiple services though.

If it ends up on Prime it will be quite a while I would think.

Well, to be entirely fair, there can be several advantages to a streaming service; #1 is that one isn't tied to a specific time, and #2 at least for AT&T internet service, one can 'cast' the stream to any TV in the house since it is sent via WiFi to the subscriber box.

I used to like the fact that they released an entire series in one go so I could binge watch. Unfortunately, they seem to have cottoned on to the fact that many were opting for free trials and watching a series for free. 😀

So back to a couple of episodes and then one per week.

Watched the first two episodes. Darn good so far !  Well worth the $4.99 a month.

  Remember, Mazeltov, it's Asimov ?

Yes, I liked it too. They've certainly spent big money on it. The special effects were impresive, not in quantity but in quality. The scene where the space elevator garrots the planet especially so.

I think it has great potential. Looking forward to next episode.

Need to subscribe? Fugget about it. I wouldn't give the folks at Apple the sweat off my WNA if it was noon in the desert and they were dying of thirst!
