Annoying Pauses

Featured Replies

Am I the only one getting notchy pauses in the last couple of days ?

Have cleared my Community folder, but they still persist.

None here, settings maxed.  I toggle Dev Mode on and off to get rid of logging spinner associated microstutters, and ATC Stuttering Fix to reduce microstutter assoc with ATC.  But no what I would consider 'notchy pauses'.

I experienced complete pauses on taxiing right after the update, even in rural areas - worst I've ever experienced.

I then deleted and recreated my rolling cache and now I'm taxiing fairly smoothly - the occasional stutter or micropause, but not bad, even in city environments.  Flying is now smoother than ever and frames rates are excellent.

What is this "ATC stuttering fix"? I'm having some stutters too after SU6 that I didn't have before.

These ATC stutters have been there all along, not only after SU6.  When ATC sounds, frequently a microstutter occurs, not always, but often.  There is a mod that reduces the amount of stuttering significantly, somehow, by limiting the number of written lines of text to just 4.

You can download it here, and then into the Community Folder.  The downside is it eliminates all lines of ATC text before the last 4, so you lose the history if you need to scroll back and look at something you may have missed or forgotten.

I have the circle in the lower right corner going about every second or so.

Before SU6 I barely even noticed it. Now it's all the time.

Does anyone know what it indicates? Is it caching scenery?

I have no idea what it's doing now.  Some time ago I put in a few zen desk tickets on it and prior to those tickets it appeared to be associated with logging messages/errors/warnings in the Dev Mode console as they would accrue into the 1000's of entries in the console.  They changed something about it because now those don't accrue nearly as much.  You might open up Dev Mode, clear the console cache of those messages/errors/warning, then close DM, and you won't rarely see the circle appear again until you go out of MSFS to the desktop. They are frequently but not always associated w/ a microstutter when the circle appears.  The downside of this ritual is you won't log any flights whenver you toggle Dev Mode on and off again in order to nearly completely eliminate the circle spinner from appearing, with or w/o microstutters associated with it.

Unfortunately it did not help. I deleted my rolling cache, then recreated it. No difference 🙁

Before SU6 and after SU5  I was experiencing smooth flights, I am now also getting micro pauses. Approaching EGLL (I have not yet flown to any other major airport) pauses are longer. I seem to have gone back in time.

For me SU6 is much smoother than SU5/WU6, especially at LOD 400 at resolution scale 120.

I had stutters and long pauses over photogrammetry cities as soon as I installed the update, but once MS sorted out the connectivity issues, it became perfectly smooth.

If you can't resolve it otherwise, I would suggest a reinstall.

If you're not aware there are two sources of micro-stutters rarely talked about here.  You can read about it and how to eliminate them here:

A reinstall because an update introduced stutters in the sim that we didn't have before? You must be kidding me. 🙄

If you're the only one having this issue, I'd say you could consider that...

Glad to say....I had a backup copy of SteamLibrary and so I renamed my current "notchy"  to SteamLibry FS2020 to OLD and proceeded to copy the backup across.

Cross fingers I have not seen any pauses 😀 So thank you all you wonderful forum members who responded to this post. We are indeed a flightsim family.

Compared to P3D what it took to do a complete uninstall and reinstall including myriad add-ons it's one easy piece of cake to uninstall/reinstall MSFS--though it takes a while, just little to no attention required.  I did it when I didn't need to because I failed to learn in time Process Lasso can prevent MSFS from initializing, and this happened sometime after an update as I had been using PL for years.
