UK2000 will no longer make scenery for P3D

Recommended Posts

When I switched from Flight Unlimited 3 to FSX way back in 2008, my main objective was to create "Flight Unlimited Great Britain". Thirteen years later, that dream has become a reality, and Gary's UK2000 scenery is a very significant part of that. Without Gary's UK2000 airports and VFR airfields packages, I would not have been able to do it. It was also why I asked Gary if I could join the UK2000 beta test team in 2009, and I have been a proud member ever since

I'm sorry to see UK2000 cease development for P3D but I understand and respect the decision. Luckily there are now a large number of great value UK2000 sceneries available. For me they hit the sweet spot between price, install size and quality and Gary's support has always been top notch. Maybe when MS pull the plug on the current version of MSFS, as they are sure to do at some point, developers will return to P3D if it is still available.

All you P3d folks (I'm one of them) that are getting their panties in a wad over the lack of loyalty by third party developers need to remember that only dogs are loyal.  🙂

I think it’s more than that. If the new simulator could replicate everything we could do in p3d but with the new visuals we wouldn’t be seeing as much resistance. Now we have people who can’t move to the new one because of sdk issues, weather engine issues, home hardware issues, missing complex airliners, no gsx, forced updates etc. so a lot of us are in a position where we would love to move to the new sim but can’t.

Exactly, the move from FSX to P3D was easier because what didn't already work was updated by the devs in short order. I've purchased many upgrades of my favorite sceneries to use in MSFS and they are darn gorgeous. But the good looks I get when I fire it up to fly with friends isn't enough to keep me there. Until GSX, PMDG, QW and others bring over their planes and utilities most of my time will continue in P3D. Make no mistake, I think the FBW NEO is pretty great, but compare its visual experience and feel to the start to finish GSX-FSLABS-Activesky experience and I just can't switch over yet. I like both sims and I know MSFS will mature in time, but until that time I see no logical reason to intentionally cripple my functionality just because the hottest thing is here. I do both of them and I enjoy that.

I've always been a fan of Gary's work - when I was about 13 I got one of his sceneries (Cardiff I think) and since then the many I have have had a special sort of feel to them.

I like his style, and his respect for FPS as well.  Jon b earelir was right - they do have their own distinctive style!

Will miss his P3D development.

I am open-minded about which sim I end up using.  I am hoping it will eventually be MSFS, as it runs better and looks better, but I can't go there without advanced aircraft and good weather (including historical weather).  And I can't tolerate having the sim being broken every update.

What I can't stand is this limbo in the middle not knowing which platform I'll be using in a year's time.   Someone else pointed out that the MSFS has put the FS world into chaos (well, for some of us) - and they weren't far off the mark!
