What about any other software required, for example for PBR?

MSFS is not fully DX12 at the moment still being developed for next year, what will happen when it is for addons.

Yes but if you do not get your addon out first someone else may do it, and when Asobo finish the development of MSFS what`s to stop them doing payware addons for MSFS after all they are an independent game developer company.

No idea what that has to do with 3DsMax.. 3DSMax is the tool where you build and create a 3D model so it can be used by rendering platforms such as P3D, MSFS and Xplane.

I defer to my honourable friend, who I know is vastly more knowledgeable thane me regarding these matters!

I note the 5.3 release info specifically references 3dsMax:

  • Improvements to sloped airport creation including exportable shape files from 3dsMax files allowing for terrain modification, projection polygons for sloped aprons, and improved taxiway and apron intersections

What about any other software required, for example for PBR?

I also recall there was something in P3D v5.3 about developer views in sim?  Is this relevant here? Perhaps Gary is abandoning P3D development just as the capacity he bemoans the lack of is being implemented?

PBR, well it depends how you want to do it.. you can buy Sustance Painter which is a subscription per month and it will help you to paint things PBR very quickly.

If you don. you can do it manually with photshop, etc. but the results would not be as good as Sustance.

I haven't used these P3D developer views in sim to be honest, so I cannot comment how good they are or not.. The ones in MSFS are very good.

Substance Painter

£32/month puts it really out of any hobbyist reach.  Are there any freeware options?

I’ve just read his post and this was my reply...

Gary, your post needs to be read by LM. It should serve as a wake up call that tinkering with the ESP engine cannot be justified any longer.

They need to up their game and use modern software methods to make scenery designing as easy as it now appears to be in MSFS.

You have given me a compelling reason to consider switching to MSFS at a future date once it’s a more stable product. Clearly it is for airport design but has some way to go before the same can be said for aircraft.

I wish you well in both your personal and professional life and hopefully one day in the not too distant future I can buy your products for MSFS.

It’s a real eye-opener highlighting how difficult it is for him to use an ageing engine to design scenery. The ESP engine has lasted well but maybe it’s now time to draw a line under it and switch to a modern system. We all know airports from some developers can look great in P3D but at a significant performance hit.

Maybe this will be the kick up the backside that will convince LM to consider how P3D development should go.

I'll cross my fingers!  Hope it happens.

I think Andy Collins is exaggerating a just a tiny little bit with his post telling of the “crass behavior“ of “the idiots“ over here...

yeah it's funny that this andy character can generalize an entire forum base.  It's also quite amusing that he still feels compelled to come over here and read posts but then knocks all the posters here.  He must just be a closet avsim dude. To each his own

Quixel Mixer, it can do PBR and procedural stuff. It's completely free. I can't remember whether or not you can make your own output templates, as P3D uses it's own PBR format.

Anyone know where to buy an updated EGKK and EGSS?

I think when comparing the pictures Rob posted, that the p3d tarmac texture looks way better than msfs.  (Pic 3 and 4)

I had a few of the UK2000 airports for P3D, and I bought the all rest of them in the recent sale.

I understand they may not be the most modern advanced payware airports but I mostly enjoy UK sim flying, and at about £11 each in the sale I will certainly get my money's worth out them.

With the amount of money I've spent on P3D over the last year on aircraft and scenery it will remain my main sim for quite a few years. I only do the occasion VFR flight in FS2020.
