Getting TileProxy to work.

Featured Replies

I don't have the * on mine and downloads seem to take less than 5 minutes (I'll have to time one to check) but then again I am on 8mbs broadband.

This week-end, for other reasons, I bought for 40$ a 2 G USB card. Now, you see what I mean... Is there a way to store bmp from FSX/TP on it and have FSX access it directly?

I found that if I rerun FSX without running tileproxy again, the tiles from the previous session are still there, in /World/xxxx/texture folders depending on where I was before hthe new session. If you run cleanup the're gonna go away... of course. So I copied then compressed the files used, came to only 75 Megs which I have set aside for later use if I fly there again and want to avoid using tileproxy again. Because that time I got fully level 17 in the area I wanted, a real nice download.al

Last time I tried to put the BMPs on a flash drive, it was too slow. But then, my flash drive may not have been the fastest product... It would sure eliminate the seek times that a normal hard drive adds, but read/write speeds may not be up to par.

Ok Had another look, this is my proxyuser.cfg [TileProxy]lod_distance=1000fast_mode=No#source=Service Example 1#source=Service Example 2source=Virtual Earth[Virtual Earth]cache_folder=cache.service1network_module=libnettilemodule_config="server=http://a*.ortho.tiles.virtualearth.net|path=/tiles/a%s.jpeg?g=52|quad=0123|balance=0123|useragent=Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.0; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.04506; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)"max_lod=13min_level=9max_level=17color_hack=Nocolor_level=0bulk_extend=25[service Example 1]cache_folder=cache.service1network_module=libnettilemodule_config="server=http://a*.ortho.tiles.figurethisoutyourself|path=/tiles/a%s.jpeg?g=52|quad=0123|balance=0123|useragent=Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.0; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.04506; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)"max_lod=13min_level=9max_level=17color_hack=Yescolor_level=13bulk_extend=50[service Example 2]cache_folder=cache.service2network_module=libnettilemodule_config="server=http://kh*.figurethisoutyourself|path=/kh?t=t%s&n=404&v=17|quad=qrts|balance=0123|useragent=Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.0; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.04506; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)"max_lod=13min_level=5max_level=17color_hack=Nocolor_level=0bulk_extend=25This section...cache_folder=cache.service1 links to the folder of the same name which contains 1.33 GB of jpegsBut When I checked the world folder I get size 68.4 MB (71,787,456 bytes), All the bmp's are in this folderD:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesWorld0501TEXTUREWhat I have noticed As I fly around the Jpeg cache folder gets bigger and bigger but the GamesWorld folder stays the same size... does that sound correct?.Many thanksJohn

compress them as a folder (i.e. 203) where you are or the whole world folder for that matter if you dont know where you were, then rename the compressed file to the locality that that combo was good forcompression takes a while but nowheres the time to copy 70,000 files to another folder.al

Aren't the section headers missing in the INI file or did they just got missing when you posted this? There should be a TileProxy section as well as a Virtual Earth section (both in square brackets). Make sure each section has a unique name.Is the D: partition still having enough free space? Does ProxyUser on startup say it is monitoring the D: partition? (if it tried to monitor C:, the program would not work)

First of all thank you all for the help especially Victor. I have TP running now, sort of...I loade up a flight in an area that has good high resolution images on Google earth. Based on Christian's recomandation I chose a mountainous region. Airport S68 Orofino Municipal North Idaho. However when I start the sim the resolution is really poor, nowhere close to what it is on Google Earth. I've been trying to explore in one of the helicopters and the images are there they are just really muddy and don't ever become clear. Almost like when you switch zoom levels in Google earth.Any ideas?Looks like in the DOS box i am still getting some failed messages while trying to fetch tiles.Blaze

Hello,The key to getting this to work is roundabout and, frankly, frustrating. Here are a few hints:-Read the User Manual-sometimes you have to play with your graphics settings to make TileProxy work. For example, in mid-flight I noticed TP still wasn't working so I made some slight changes to my mesh settings in Display/Customize in FSX's menu, hit OK, went back to flying and then TileProxy started working. No clue why.-MOST IMPORTANT: do not forget to make your ProxyUser look something like this:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/171377.jpgTake note that the line that starts with module_config MUST ALL BE ON THE SAME LINE. In Notepad, turn Word Wrap OFF. Feel free to copy/paste the text out of my attached text file into your ProxyUser.-If you can't get it to work, don't feel too bad. The areas you fly over will not look as crisp as what you see in Google Earth, so if you expect that, you will be disappointed.-To get the best results, max out everything in your FSX Display>Customize>Scenery-If you are flying the Missions, don't use this. For example, on the "find the Elephant" mission, if TileProxy is enabled, you won't see the elephants (or trees or shrubbery for that matter).-To test if this is working properly, fly over NYC or the Grand Canyon or any other spot that has good coverage. Don't test it out in your hometown because most places don't have that great of coverage.

For some reason the headers are not showing when I cut and paste but they are there.D: drive 207 gig free.Just restarted FSX and tileproxy and the world folder has doubled in size VERY quickly, Far quicker than my meager0.5 mbit connection can explain, the reason for posting was to find out if the the Cache folder will supply the World/folder with data it can convert to BMP without having to access the web site.I have been involved in flight sim's since the 80's and the one thing I've always wanted has been to fly over my local area and recognise landmarks, see my town , fly an approach into my local airports and see the same landmarks on screen that I saw in the jumpseat, in short to not just fly from a to b but to explore my scenic corner of the world. You did it:)

Greg,I have the exact same problem. Let me know if you find the solution! Thanks, jim

DefBringer, I am sure that I have the .ini file correct and working I don't think I am getting all of the information needed from the GE server? While the sceenery is being loaded up I see the following message in the DOS box repeatedly Tile API: Fetching tiles at level "X" 1234 5678 <1,1> Failed"X" being various level numbers and I am assuming the string of digits that follows it to be a grid coordinate or something similar.Flying over the Grand Canyon looks like a bunch of smooth polygons much like the old Falcon 3.0 Tornado terrain from years back.I sure hope I can get this figured out I really am trying hard.I adjusted my in game graphics and a few extra 3d buildings popped up but overall the same old blurry textures.Blaze

I'm sorry to say, that I'm one of the few that can't get the TileProxy to work.I always get a repeating message called "FileBasicInformation?" and after a while my FS crashes.I've tried nearly everything I've found in this forum ... nothing works for me.Any ideas???Thanks

hm ... nobody having the same problem? maybe some more detailled informations will help to find a solution.- i think the software is installed correctly- antivir deactivated- i start the "load filter ..." and after that the fsx- the console tells me, that the flightsim is connected- after downloading a few tiles i get the repeating message "FileBasicInformation?" and after a while the fs crashes.- one other strange thing: sometimes the console starts to download tiles before i even started a flight.i really would like to test this fantastic software, but at the moment i really don't know what else i can do. greetingsalexito

Do you start the "load filter.." from the Start Programs menu or from the File Proxy folder?
