Looks an awful lot like a Twin Otter to me...

And a ton of high wing rough terrain fixed gear twin turboprops 😄

Yeah, they look similar and are nearly the same size.

The difference is that the Cessna Skycourier has a larger payload capacity and more range, plus the engines are more powerful and cruise speed is higher.

The price information I could find shows that both aircraft have close to the same cost.

Fedex has ordered 50 with an option for 50 more.

I think overall it's supposed to be a better performing aircraft than the Twin Otter.  Of course, the Twin Otter is a time-tested and proven aircraft.  Time will tell.

The Twin Otter went into service 56 years ago...1966.  The 100 - 300 series was in production from 1965 to 1988.  The line started up again in 2008 and Twin Otters are still being produced.  That says a lot for reliability.  I flew in one once.  Rocky Mountain Airways from Denver to Aspen to link up with some skiing buddies who were already there.  It was a noisy SOB.

I have the Twin Otter on my system.  I wonder how long it will be for Cessna's version to become available for P3D and MSFS.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

You bring back memories of my younger years Noel. Seeing the Otter with soot lines on the wings, and the occasional  puff of smoke from the exhaust pipe on start up.And of course the jet-a smell.Cessna has competition with the 408. Desaer Aircraft has a plane in the works that looks like the 408. Testing for that plane starts next year.

I think it will come down to how much overlap there is in the intended uses for both aircraft. Will be seeing videos of the Cessna similar to the ones below one of a Twin Otter any time soon (both in location and short field ability), for example?

Wow!  That's some approach.

Definitely one of my favorite twins. If handled properly it is a very handy aircraft and fills many roles. As with many other machines, however, if you mishandle it will bite you.

They are commonly used in my area for skydiving.

Thank you.

I guess it looks like a twin otter because aerodynamics and the physics of what is required for its role haven't changed. Bet its sexy inside though, and under the hood.

Doesn't look that sophisticated re avionics. Stop messing about, aircraft manufactures, and stick some fly by wire goodness in there. Its the 21st century for gods sake.

Whew.  Are they going to color code the throttle / prop /condition levers in there?  Or leave them black.

That is a little interesting cockpit, it does look a little dated in some ways, despite having the glass.  Utilitarian was their goal I guess.

I think Fedex should have acquired a bunch of Shorts 360's 25 years ago, but what do I know.  :)

FedEx needs a mix of aircraft to fit their destination airports.  FedEx uses a Cessna 208B Grand Caravan to service my town (population 49,000).  That's all it needs to make the daily run to Lubbock TX and back each day.  I'm sure they have the routes in mind for the Cessna Sky Courier for larger towns and cities.  Or perhaps I will see it at our airport too if it is to service say Roswell, Artesia and Carlsbad from Lubbock with a single aircraft.

Perfect plane for emergency recovery operations.Just like the US Air Force calls the C-130  Trash Hauler. It carries almost everything.

Considering there are aircraft out there with automated condition and prop pitch settings, I wonder if manufactures are either lazy. or refraining to put the advanced technology in their aircraft because it's cheaper... and they can still charge mega bucks for their product.
