What is Hoppie and do I need it?

Featured Replies

hi all,

So, i recently saw in the a320 the hoppie acars thingy. I remember seeing it earlier somewhere on some aircraft, I don't remember where.

Is it actually growing that much it is used instead of voice ATC? And if so, how do I use it?

Very open question, I understand, but who knows ;).

cheers

Hoppie is a great old friend, who used to visit me in Portugal every year ...

An interesting story of how a passion for aviation, flight simulation and computer science turned an IT engineer / researcher into a skilled aviation data commmunications designer / developer / integrator working for a well known USA company - https://www.hoppie.nl/pub/about.html

Hopefully ingame performance will not suffer from all these external connection thingies at some point.

Actually, it’s quite lovely to get PDC and enroute comms via CPDLC on Vatsim. I seem to get the most controller logins when flying in the UK/Europe or on long water crossings.

When both the pilot and the controller are using CPDLC it’s pretty fantastic.

I think for now, it's really only a feature that is useful if you are flying on VATSIM or something similar.

I see, I am indeed so.. I guess I'll try.

But I still need to check in at every station by voice? Interesting.

It's a complement to voice transmissions, not a replacement. To be used for low priority transmissions. Helps keep voice transmissions from getting clogged up in high traffic areas.

sounds awesome, especially if it is integrated in the aircraft like with the FBW.. okey, I'm on it!
