SP1 Feedback Thread

Looks like they fixed that up draft generated from very dense areas. Texture loading is very very fast. Frame improves a bit. Light bloom and Water 2x max still kills the fps.

I have spent about +5000$ in this computer just for their new version, I will be flying FS2004 until 2009 I hope so... First the good:1. Getting good frame rates over rural/light urban areas of 40 (locked at 40) where previously I would be lucky to get 30.Now the not so good:1. Also getting fairly frequent heavy stuttering (FR drop to 3 - 5) especially on turns but noticable over an airfield (scenery complexity set to sparse). This was not evident prior to SP1!2. There are clearly some problems remaining with water bodies, rivers and narrow channels - see water separating Wales from Anglesey in the UK.Settings:Low to medium, no autogen. Changing settings within limits (e.g. not putting sliders all the way to the right) has negligable affect on stutters. Stutters occur in default and add on aircraft.First impression - increase in frame rate very welcome but on this evidence SP1 has to have a thumbs down. Note that all previously published tweaks removed as I did a complete reinstall of FSX prior to installing SP1. Also defragged drive that FSX sits on.Not a particularly happy bunny.Regards,ChrisSystem specs that matter:AMD 4000+2Gb RAMNvidia 6800GS (256Mb)

Installation was perfectly straightforward, and frame rates have shot up (from average 20-25 before SP1 to average 35-45 with SP1), with no loss of quality that I can see. The only problem was that FSUIPC initially didn't recognize my CH yoke and pedals, but this has been fixed by Pete's latest version. I'm very pleased with the results. Thanks, ACES!Dugald

I'd say my frame rates are up a conservative 80%. I haven't noticed the stutters that have been reported, but we'll see.Two things I noticed:1. Prior to SP1 if I set FSAA in FSX, whenever I brought up or hid the ATC box (~ key) my screen would go blank for a second and then reappear. This no longer happens with SP1.2. Quite often my initial load screen would stop at 82% 'adjusting scenery objects'. It would eventually complete the load process after 10 or so seconds. I would load the same save flights and sometimes it would happen and sometimes not. When something sometimes happens and sometimes doesn't it is not a good sign. This had me somewhat anxious in that if FSX is having trouble with the initial load then it is probably also having trouble with dynamic in-flight loads. I have loaded the same saved flights maybe 10 or 12 times with SP1 and it has not stopped at the 82% once. Whatever it was seems to have been fixed.

I also repeatedly had the 82% issue with RTM and confirm it is gone with SP1...

Holly molly. The 2nd twoo piccies look great. What do you do to make it look that good????? Mine look rubbish like your first twoo pictures.

Thanks for the confirm. I wasn't sure if it was just mine or what.

>Ouch. Still no ground scenery shadows. Also, what is the>point of setting texture resolution to 7cm?Performance comparisons are pretty pointless if you change settings between one test and the next. You have to assume Solar is simply testing against the same settings he was using in RTM. Like Solar I had ground shadows off (I also had bloom off and water at 1.high), but will now experiment with using these settings again.

For stutters during turns etc. have you tried adding this to your fsx.cfg? (with square brackets)PoolSize=5000000You can go as high as 10000000 without side effects but you'll probably see dimishing returns.

*WOW*My first impressions are that of AWE.Personally, I had no doubt that SP1 would be an improvement, but I had no idea how MUCH of an improvement it could bring.I did not do any 1:1 comparisons between FSX RTM and FSX SP1, but needless to say the difference in performance is dramatic. I am also NOT someone who needs to run the sim on ultra high sliders, so I have brought the autogen up just a notch or two, the complexity up just a notch or two, as well as clouds & water, and MAN - it really starts to look like the screenshots, even though I am below the max detail possible.Load times are vastly improved, and overall feel in the simulator is just better. Flying into a rural grass strip just feels BETTER descending into the forest. Flying around urban areas feels more lifelike with additional trees and buildings. Just... nice. :) And this is was a "modest" high end system! -Greg

Honestly I don't know what to make of what i'm seeing.Last night, I was getting these monster frame rates. But today, I'm back down to pre-SP1. But...no matter how low the frame rate thing goes, it feels just as soon at 6 fps as 45. That shouldn't make any sense. And to make it worse, I put all the settings at their minimum and got...16 over KMIA. But then with my usual close to max, I got 16 once more. I think my counter is broken.I'll take it though. Flew low over a major city with cars and airplanes and everything around me and despite the frame rate thing saying 7, it was very smooth and I was satisfied. I think the solution is to just not watch the frame rate counter.

Hi allWell, first of all: Congratulations to not only the Aces team, but to us all. SP1 has meant a definite improvement even on my (nowadays) modest PC. It no longer struggles to keep FPS at 20 where it is locked, and even at KSEA, it not longer drops to 6-8. It keeps up at 12-13, which may not be excellent, but playable in any case! Mind you, this is all with the same setings as pre-SP1.Only thing I did change was the TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH thing to 40 iso 400. That cured 99% of my stutters :)SP1 does tend to be a bit more blurry, though. These mild-to-medium blurries does not disappear until you are right on top of them. Things behind you are nice and crisp a long way off.Still: Good work, Aces!Oh, my system: P4/3.0GHz (HT enabled), 3GB RAM (dual channel), ATI X1950 PRO/512.As you see, nothing to brag about, but it 'fits together' and has served me well for some years now :)BRGDSSven Sorensen, EKCH

Hello all,I too would like to say "Thank You" to the ACES team. The proformance improvements especially when flying in and around the big cities is a welcome site and look forward to exploring more of the flightsim world. Thanks Again for all your hard workDave in Alaska

Hi all,Big, big performance boost :D Estimating it to about 100%.Thanks to Phil Taylor and his team members for a wonderful job!Ulf BIntel Dual Core X6800, BFG 8800GTX.
