SP1 Feedback Thread

I'll bite. With the new patch, I'm seeing terrible frame rates. On average, I get roughly 12-17 fps in a mid-sized city with sliders set to med-low or med-high, bloom turned off, etc. In the middle of nowhere I'm seeing closer to 20.This is on a very respectable machine (Athlon X2 4600+, 2G Dual-Channel, X1950 Pro 512MB, SATA drives, etc.) running Vista 32 and a clean FSX install with SP1. Current screen resolution is 1680x1050 32bpp windowed. Any suggestions on how I can get reasonable performance without dropping quality so low that there are no advantages to running FSX in the first place?

WOW !! Thanks ACESWhile I'm sure everyone's perfromance gains will vary, but its like a complete new sim for me. :)Following is exact same flight & settings at CYVR (except I put fibre frame back to .33 as I had it at .23), before the install & after. Talk about gaining some headroom !!Before:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/171698.jpgAfter:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/171697.jpgRunning: FSG Mesh, UT Can/AK Port, JF Traffic,Settings: 4XAA, 8AF, Global Max, tri, adv ani on, all but cast on self, Large, 90, 10M, 1M, Low2x, land detail on, Very dense, dense, high, 60mi, detailed, max, 30%, 15%, Medium, 4%, 100%, 12%Regards'GarettEDIT - added settings

Well I was one of the lucky ones, who were getting good performance before, so my increase is more modest, areas that I got good frames before I seeing a little increase, but more stable. The big thing is I'm getting a good increase in New York. With Extremely dense scenery, dense autogen, and 100% airline traffic, sitting on Runway 31L, before SP1 I was getting 12-14FPS consistently, with SP1 I get a steady 20FPS. Without traffic, I'm in the thirties. Besides performance, the biggest fix in my opinion is night lighting now works for non FSX aircraft!

Thanks

Hey Garret, I have a similar setup, but with an Intel Core 2 Duo. What are your slider settings for each category. Thanks -Ryan

Center, "Southwest" 1253...Starting to pick up some fairly continuous light chop, any ride reports up ahead?

Med/high settings except traffic low. Dense autogen. Both tests in fair weather setting over PDX area. Target FPS set unlimited so that didn't artificially hold down FPS. So far so good here, did a fresh install of FSX on a brand new Raptor 150, installed SP1, ran it once and saw a massive improvement in the Tokyo Executive Transport mission compared to how it used to be (this one was always slow) have now rebooted to do the recommended de-frag, but so far I'm extremely pleased. Thanks ACE's :)This is on a C2D E6600 at stock (will overclock again later) 2gb ram, X1950 512mb, soon to be an 8800GTS or GTX.

Why do so many see the need to start a new SP1 thread based on there own personal experiences. Have a look at how many are going already. Is it that you just have to see your name up in lights.

wow wow wownow I've tweaked (thanks to Heiko for this one)TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT back to 40 - I'm getting smooth SP1 frames with much of the SP1 stutter gone - in fact almost completely goneVisuals are far better - frame per frame vs non-SP1 - I've now got traffic to 80%, everything maxed out, and Weather to High - and its smooth as silk.not only that - but mountains now actually look like mountains in the far distance- they don't look like glorified polgyons anymore. Presumably with the extra headroom produces by the code optimisations + support for dual-core its managing to render more frame per frame.hats off to you microsoft - thanks

It would seem that I am not seeing the "decrease in multiplayer errors" touted in the official list of fixes. I am still getting variations of the "Host cancelled the session" error message when I try to connect to a server. Just this morning I tried 8 times in a row and managed to get to the briefing room ONCE (attempt #6), after which I was promptly disconnected because the "Host cancelled the session". All other times I got to various stages of connection ("Connection completed", "Loading list of player aircraft", etc) before getting the error message. I will do some more testing later today but for now I continue to consider the lobby "broken".On a positive note, it would seem that SP1 does NOT break the workaround I've mentioned in this and the multiplayer forum - the one where you block IGN's servers with PeerGuardian 2 right after initiating a connection attempt. This still appears to work just as it did before. I shouldn't have to do this in the first place, of course, but it doesn't look like anyone else is going to fix it for me :/On the topic of performance increases, I haven't tested that aspect yet. I suspect I'll continue using my old settings, though, and assume it's working as advertised.

I installed SP1 and nearly got a 100% increase in some cases!I loaded a flight on the runway at Meigs in Chicago, and did comparisons with the settings you see below. Before SP1: 16-23fpsAfter SP1: 31-36fpsThats a 95% increase on the minimum value. I also loaded a flight over the UK. Before SP1: 23-25fpsAfter SP1: 40-47fpsThats an 75% increase on the minimum value. This is certainly the best patch I have ever seen for a game. http://sio.midco.net/FTP5/settings.JPG

For me minimum of 40% the improvement under the most onerous conditions over Seattle (3840x1024, autogen one notch down, water 2 low, no bloom, traffic/AI around 30%, no config tweaks other than for SP1, everything else maxed). Nice to see both cores in full use. Increase in stuttering though.Incidentally there was no significant difference between XP and Vista on my machine.
