May 16, 200719 yr Absolutely a job well done. Thanks to the ACES Team for all their hard work.Best regards,Jim

May 16, 200719 yr Great results with SP1! :-jumpy I now run with dense autogen and get smooth locked 20 FPS and no stutters. Previously autogen was a big problem and so I turned it off, but not anymore. Very happy! The dawn/dusk night textures fix in SP1 work great too.Remember to defrag after installing SP1! Also, I run ZoneAlarm but turn off "On Access Scanning" when running FSX since having ZA virus scan FSX files during flight causes stutter.Computer is nothing special just 2yr old single core AMD3500, 7900GT, 1GB RAM.Excellent work ACES and Phil! :-beerchug Looking forward to DX10 patch and Expansion Pack. FSX has a bright future. Everyone should be happy! Matthew S
May 16, 200719 yr I'm getting the same fps on my machine... but with a lot higher settings. ;) With scenery objects and autogen on extremely dense, mesh complexity at full (just like the other sliders there, apart from lod and water), traffic at high (which stil isn't THAT high, really) I get the same fps as I had with a lot lower settings. Water at 2x and high kills fps, but clearly not as much as it did. Still, fps goes down too much so I'll stick with water at 1x... (unfortunately).Another thing I noticed is that when I completely turn my head around (from complete right to complete left) with the TrackIR 4 Pro, the movement is quit smooth! Moving my head around usually dropped fps A LOT for a VERY SHORT time and it made looking around not so nice: very choppy and it spoiled the feeling of being there. But with SP1 the fps stays rather good! There is (of course) a drop when I turn around but a lot less, and it stays quite smooth. In short... ;) With SP1 looking around is better to do: a lot less drop in frames. NICE!All in all SP1 is an improvement for sure. Tomorrows I'll see what happens when I load my pre-SP1 settings. I'm sure I will have smooth fps (at least above 20 and even higher) all the time. The only disappointment (but I knew this would be the case) is that I cannot really use water at 2x...
May 16, 200719 yr Wow, what a difference! It's so enjoyable to fly aircraft in this sim without all the hickups, stuttering and hesitations. ACES really did a great job on this update!I have no problems with panning in either the VC or external full view. Even with heavy thunderstorms over the rockies I must have been averaging about 75 fps. I noticed I hit over 100 every now and again.I installed sp1 and fsuipc without a hitch and made only two changes before trying the sim. I put back FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.33 and TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=40. I didn't make any changes in my Settings but they are mostly middle to high settings.
May 16, 200719 yr Thankyou ACES and Phil....SP1 has made such an improvement in all areas...it is truly an amazing improvement and may I record my utmost thanks for what is, for the first time, an very enjoyable experience. I'm absolutely over the moon. Regards Don S
May 16, 200719 yr Hi guys,I was able to d/l SP1 this morning and installed it this afternoon; had time to "play with it" for about an hour before quitting for dinner and leaving for work this evening, so only able to get a few quick impressions.I have a P4 3.2, 2GB ram, 6800 Ultra 256mb. I definitely noticed an FPS improvement after changing my config settings back to pre-SP1; what I will personally try is to keep my FPS setting close to what I had and then bump up a few settings I've kept very low or off until I hit my new "ceiling", and find something I'm happy with like I was with pre-SP1. I want to note 2 things though that jumped out at me; the first Phil warned about on his blog - autogen will sort of "pop" more that before, and I definitely noticed this. I think though that when flying it won't be that much more noticeable than it was before because of the additional autogen I'll have turned on.The second is more disconcerting: the blurries are back! Before with my 1 meter resolution and fiber frame setting at .44 my textures were sharp and clear almost at all times; now they look blurry almost all the time. Clearly some new tweaks are in order to correct this, but I won't be able to experiment on this for awhile. I'm going to hazard a guess that switching some texture loading work to other cores for those who have dual or quad core machines has hurt the single core user in this regard. Hopefully though some new tweaks will be found to fix this for those of us with single core machines. I had it before and I want it back! :)I can definitely see the hard work that went into SP1; to Phil and the team thanks once more. I'm looking forward to exploring anew and enjoying the fixes that have gone into FSX with SP1.Thanks, Ken

I had it before and I want it back! :)Although ACES has stated that they removed the code which would attempt to treat single core machines with HT as though they had two cores......one way to find out for sure is to force the mode using this entry in your fsx.cfg file:{JobScheduler} // use square brackets, of course!AffinityMask=1This will absolutely, positively guarantee that FSX will NOT spawn any threads on the second, "virtual cpu."You can see my specs below, and I have absolutely NO "blurries" whatsoever! ;) Fr. May 16, 200719 yr Bill,Thanks for the heads up; I read Phil's notes about that but as I stated haven't had time to try anything out yet. I will definitely add this to my cfg and see what happens. Thanks! Ken
May 17, 200719 yr Im not happy with sp1, my performance still sucks. Medium settings im getting 14 fps sitting at ksfo with the a321 vc. Bear in mind I haven't done any tweaking, but still come on.
May 17, 200719 yr It's not rose-coloured glasses - the graphics are improved!I noticed immediately that some tweaking had to have been done with the graphics. The water looks better, the clouds look better, the terrain looks better, the aircraft look better.I remember clouds used to occasionally "pop up" when doing a turn or panning the view - not anymore. Also the 3D rendering of the clouds seems to have also improved as you fly through them. The water textures don't seem to re-adjust every now and then either.ACES can you confirm that the graphics have been enhanced in any way?James
May 17, 200719 yr Bravo ACES!Framerates have over doubled with SP1. Now I can run autogen-at dense even- and she's running smooth as silk.I could not even run autogen before SP1.Now we have have legitimate and worthy successor to FS9.Here's to all involved with repairing FSX!Cheers!:-beerchug
May 17, 200719 yr Thank you ACES. I'm seeing an improvement in FPS that varies from 20% to 30%. I have to say I am quite pleased with the performance jump after SP1. This has made FSX truly an enjoyment to use again. Thank you Phil, and thanks to the ACES team! Great job! :-beerchug
May 17, 200719 yr Hi,Installed the FSX Service Pack 1 and tested it then on my Ostend (EBOS) scenery. I see an improvement of 5 fps. Great !Thanks ACE TEAM.Best Regards. Jos
