May 18, 200719 yr Well it's the same old fps fpr me. I am using a different way to judge how well fs x is running. What im doing is compairing it to how well flightsim 9 looks with my add on's like land class terrain mesh and such. In order for me to get a better looking scenery in flightsim x the fps are in the low teens with some 4's and 5's even after sp1. I had high hopes for the service pack because I bought a new computer the same time I got fs x. The first time this has happened and I go back to fs 95. I got the "hottest" computer Best Buy had that day. I upgraded to a new power supply so I could run the Nvidia 9800GS card. When it was all said and done I was out over 1,500 dollers US. and have a computer that still can not run flightsim x sp1 to an acceptable level to intice me to leave fs9. With this slow preformance what will happen when LDS,PMDG,and all the others come out with their big boy add on's? You start running things like true flight management systems and you can for get it. May 18, 200719 yr Great job team! I re-installed SP1 twice. The first time right on top of the existing FSX and my FPS went from 17 to 22. Then I did a clean re-install of FSX and then applied SP 1 and my FPS went to 40+. I think it is absolutely necessary to do a clean install of FSX.
May 18, 200719 yr Seriously, I applaud Aces and Phil for all the hard work, and I really am very happy for those who got great results from SP1, but I just can't believe SP1 didn't do much for me.I have been flying FSX/SP1 for the better part of two days and have seen very little if any improvement. It is quite smooth locked at 20, but I still can't use any kind of traffic or autogen, the ground textures are always blurred, and there is some minor stuttering(I'm refering to high detail airports like PHX-DEN-LAS-ORD etc). I've tried everything and every combination of game and gpu settings, some of which resulted in distorted ac and scenery in outside views. My sliders are mostly at default settings now with several far left and some boxes unchecked.I have a FS dedicated(not on line) Dell P4 3.46 extreme cpu, 2 gigs of ram, 2 hard drives (one I reformatted just for FSX/SP1 after I moved FS9), an ATI x850xt pcie platinum edition GPU (about $3,400 for the box alone) and I don't see much difference between before and after sp1. I don't understand this as I see some good results reported with systems that appear to be less potent than mine.I de/re-installed FSX, defragged numerous times on both sides, installed VS2005, installed SP1. I did do a couple of the config tweaks mentioned by Phil and then reverted back to see very little difference. Granted, I am no computer whiz, but I was sure surprised at my results--- not to mention very dissappointed-----again.Scott
May 18, 200719 yr In case anyone's counting, put another tick in the wow column. I've just got a new E6400 system (running at Dell's locked stock speed) and put in an Ebay special 7900GS graphics card. Installed FSX for the first time, though I had already downloaded SP1. I didn't have very high expectations, so with reasonably high settings I was surprised to get 30-40 fps flying around the Outer Hebrides in Scotland. Then installed SP1 and the fps was flitting from 50s to 80s and I began to max the sliders out. Still getting a smooth flight with most things maxed (except light bloom, flare) and water on 2(low). At this resolution (1280x1024) with AA(FSX setting) and 8xAF the 7900GS seems to have plenty of power for the time being.
May 18, 200719 yr Vaughan, This is probably only a problem if you have high resolution photoreal scenery installed e.g. Horizon GenerationX. These sceneries have large numbers of bgl files and they are very large e.g. 100 MB.Many people have reported these problems and I know Microsoft is aware of the problem. As I said, I'm very surprised they didn't address it in SP1.In my case, loading times and performance are not too bad, but other GenerationX users reported serious stuttering and very long flight load times (up to 25 minutes!)I did many tests using Filemon, flying in Japan. When FSX accessed the GenerationX scenery I saw very noticeable stuttering that might last a few seconds. During this time frame rates fell sharply e.g. from 15 FPS to 5 FPS. There were never any CTD's. I wouldn't expect it to cause CTD's as it is merely accessing the hard drive. These spurious accesses are repeated every minute or so. In fact they can be as regular as clockwork, except that the actual time period may be different on different sessions.Filemon shows that FSX accesses lots of other unrelated scenery files, but they are usually much smaller than the photoreal files and the effect of this is not noticeable. If you're interested, do a search on the forum. There was a big discussion on this at the end of last year. I think the heading was 'Long loading times with VFR scenery'.Best regards, Chris
May 18, 200719 yr I'm running a very modest computer by everyone elses standards, AMD Sempron 3100+, 1GB RAM, Radeon X800T, Seagate RAID0. Before SP1 I was getting 15 fps with everything on low settings. Now, all maxed except autogen on medium, and I'm getting a steady locked 20FPS. I'm very pleased with this patch!
May 18, 200719 yr I'm with you Scott. I see essentially no difference at all after installing SP1 on a similar system. A major disappointment for sure. But, as my daddy often told me, life's too short to dance with ugly women. For me it's time to move on to something a bit more satisfying and a lot less frustrating. For the first time since FS2 I won't be running the latest version. Maybe I'll try FSX again when this box finally dies. May 18, 200719 yr After installing sp1 I got a little better fps but not enough to notice any difference because I got between 10 and 20 previously. This morning I tooka short flight and tried using real weather as I always did before sp1. Everything looked so wierd I had to stop using that. Now my sim will NOT START AT ALL!!! It loads and says it is at 100 percent but stops there and the microsoft error message comes up --send or don't send. I sent 10 of them this am and I am still out of luck. Does anyone know how to uninstall sp1? I think I might have to do that and I question whether I will put it back.Right now I need to know how to uninstall.
May 18, 200719 yr to uninstall SP1 go to add/remove prgrams and check the Show Updates box. SP1 will appear right below MS FSX.
May 18, 200719 yr I'll start by saying that I was a very hard critic of FSX initially. Now here I am after SP1 (with foot in mouth) utterly pleased with the performance gains on my rig! I still use the same settings pre SP1, and have my frames locked at 26. Most noticable improvements for me are in texture loading. (ie. no blurries) I plan on using unlimited FPS for a flight just to see what happens with texture loading then:)Anyways just wanted to chime in and give my 2 thumbs up for SP1, and to give many Kudos to Phil Taylor, and the ACES team!Chris,The Machine:Asus M2NE moboAMD Athlon X2 54002 gig PC6400 ramBFG Nvidia 8800GTS2x 250G 7200rpm SATA Hardrives19 Samsung SyncMaster LCD (1280x1024)

May 18, 200719 yr Great performance here too. I can actually enjoy flying the Eaglesoft CRJ1 in FSX now with my frames locked at 30. Granted, I have autogen turned off, I have most other settings set to about 70-75 percent except traffic which I have around 25 percent. FSX feels a lot smoother now. I can see the tweaks in play sometimes when the FPS drops from 30 to 24-25 it quickly bounces back up to the locked rate but the smoothness remains as if it never really happened to begin with. All in all, I am very pleased and I really enjoy the game now.

If you start to see stutters reduce your TextureBandwidthMult setting! Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
May 18, 200719 yr >Try it at unlimited frames, there's a problem in FSX wjen>frames are locked. If you start to see stutters reduce your>TextureBandwidthMult setting! There is also a problem with FSX when frames are unlocked. If you push the computer too hard with over-the-top visual settings (which differ from one machine to the next), unlocking the frame limiter will prevent FSX from refreshing blocky textures with sharper ones quickly enough as you move. This, among other things, results in the "SP1 blurries" people have been reporting. Also, it is suggested on this page that if you set framerate to unlimited TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT has absolutely no effect (see the post by "Steve" from November 22, 2005 11:51 AM):http://www.steve-lacey.com/blogarchives/20..._stutters.shtmlIf this is correct (and I don't have any other information to go by on this matter, so it could be incorrect), then reducing that setting while not limiting your framerate will not help with stutters.EDIT:I'm clearly blind or something - the above information appears to be for FS9. Although FSX is based on FS9, there's no telling if it works the same way as far as TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT and unlimited framerate are concerned.
May 18, 200719 yr I just did go back to unlimited fps and it certainly did improve some. Earlier today I also increased Texture_Bandwidth_Mult to 200 as well as add the Fiber _Frame line with a .50 value. Also increased LOD_Radius to 5.0. At this point I'm confusing myself with all the tweaking and settings that haven't produced the silver bullet!! This is a puzzel moreso than anything else. I'm going to forget what little I've learned about simming if I don't stop tweaking and start flying!!Thanks for the tip. Btw, I watched your Mustang video a couple years ago. Excellent!
