Casablanca to Timbuktu

Featured Replies

Timbuktu, is an old city in the western African country of Mali. It was historically important as a trading post on the trans-Saharan caravan route and as a center of Islamic culture (c. 1400–1600). It is located on the southern edge of the Sahara, about 13 km (8 miles) north of the Niger River. The city was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1988. In 2012, in response to armed conflict in the region, Timbuktu was added to the UNESCO List of World Heritage in Danger.

Leaving Casablanca it is obvious, which plane to choose

To our right side is the Hassan II mosque. Built in 1993, it is the second largest functioning mosque in Africa and is the 7th largest in the world. Its minaret is the world's second tallest minaret at 210 m (689 ft)

Awesome shots!

Can I ask if you were using live weather? Those clouds look much better/more varied than what I've seen in the past several months.

What a trip! "Armchair travel" never looked better.

What a trip! Great so see that a desert isn´t just an expanse of dull, brownish-looking sand, but has so many different colours.

Nice - a route remote from the "usual" ones. When reading about Timbuktu, I had to think about a joke - excerpt "... Tim booked two" 😀. If you don't know it, you have to search 😉.
