This is precisely why competition is good.

They are even doing a development snapshot and that has never happened before.

Seems like all our squabbling will soon be irrelevant together with graphics cards and cpus. Cloud gaming is the future. It's a no brainier.

As long as you are fine using a joypad and 2D.

Neither are really the future of flightsim imho, I wont comment on those who bet the house on them being the future of flightsim.

That will soon change as hardware manufacturers adapt. It makes me sad. I've thoroughly enjoyed my PC over last 30 years and the constant battle to keep it up to date. Times change but it's over now. MS have played a trump card.

Or, insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

About the only interesting thing in streaming atm is the recently launched Deck, which allows you to stream from your PC aiui, but thats just as much a niche use case as renting DVDs in 2022.

You can stream x-plane 11 already now...

Besides that, the biggest streaming services have been out there for some time, especially Geforce Now which you can try for free in play sessions 1 hour long, with owned games on Steam, Epic Games store etc. Currently i have been away from my main pc for some months and thank god for that, i coudn't play my flight sims but i did play other games which i woudn't have been able to run on my laptop for sure.

As the dev update, it's quite good! The water doesn't convince me at all but they said they are working on it still so we'll see. Especially the screen with the platform is not that convincing mostly because with such waves, there woudn't be so many reflections. Anyway, we'll see once they call it "ready".

I was thinking about it now. Gone are the days of secret developments and not informing customers about the progress of projects. Today the market requires information, progress, status, estimated deadlines.

That old answer that some developers give "will be released when it's ready" no longer fits in today's market.

What LR did with this publication was a positive point. They are to be congratulated. In everyday life, we always learn more, it's a matter of adapting to changes.

Im not getting it.

X-plane developers blog is already there for years, they updated including road maps for YEARS. I use x-plane since v10 and I always knew what is coming due to this blog, like many other users.

So what change are you guys talking about? It is not the first time that LR made such an update, it is happening for many years already regardless of any competetion.

Yes I know. Or rather I think you must be referring to XP mobile. Sort of makes me sad that in a few years time my PC will be redundant after 30 years of constantly upgrading it. ( I have never bought an entirely new PC in all that time!😀) Its been fun. I'm not sure life will be quite the same when all we need is a phone with Bluetooth, a Google dongle thingy and a telly with a VR socket. Come to think of it we won't even need the phone....

They only just starting reading it.

This means LR only just started writing it.

Also, LR havent updated anything for years of course, so obviously couldnt write about new updates before now.

TBF, there are a few people to blame for people being so misinformed about things like that. It doesnt really matter anymore as long as those beliefs are now changing.

Also, they have "upped their game" a fair bit over earlier releases, in quite a few ways. This wasnt due so much to competition, and more finding critical bugs hadnt been reported for years because org mods and community leaders were telling everyone they either werent bugs or not to expect them to be fixed.

And Jamstro comes up (again) with something completely unrelated (cloud gaming is the future) to spoil the thread, and to involve the other sim again in an indirect way.

Please refrain swallowing the bait, guys.

No, i was talking about x-plane desktop.

You can rent a "cloud pc" and run every game or simulator you want, this has been the case for years now and mostly unrelated to the software you are running.
