March 12, 20224 yr Oh well, looks like the MSFS2020 bug has finally bit me 😪. Was told I had to download yet another big set of files, but now I can't open MSFS. Went to MS Store as ordered and checked "reinstall" bet was sent to a large number of GamePass and XBox pages, but could not find and reinstall button. So, I suppose I will have to fully uninstall MSFS and reinstall. Any other choices ? Dave Hinson David Hinson

Since my last clean up, much better MSFS experience. Keeping my fingers crossed. MSFS

Dave Hinson I've reinstalled twice, each one was flawless, required almost zero input, so if you have to just do it, though it takes several hours even w/ a good connection. Instead of launching, I was directed to a lot of store/Xbox pages. Just as I was recalling that rich hoard of Anglo-Saxon words I keep in my vocabulary for such occasions, a message appeared on my screen announcing that a Windows update was now ready to install. After I let Bill Gates and his minions rummage around in my pc for a while, I was permitted to restart it and everything was hunky dory again 👍. Edited March 12, 20224 yr by DD_Arthur
March 12, 20224 yr @DaveH Before you panic and rtry reinstalling everything, follow my standard advice: Step 1 - Check MS Store to make sure Gaming Services and Xbox app are up to date. Step 2 - Start>Settings>Apps & Features>Microsoft Flight Simulator>Advanced Options>Repair [That is the process for Win11. IIRC the path (or maybe just the appearance on-screen) is slightly different in Win10 but you should find it easy enough] If that fails... Step 3 - Download the Win 10 Media Creation Tool or Win 11 Media Creation Tool (depending what OS you are using) by clicking on "Download Tool Now" and follow the instructions the tool gives, making sure to select the option to retain your files and apps. This doesn't wipe Windows or delete anything, it's actually a repair rather than installation tool when used this way. If it works, you should then be able to launch the sim successfully. This step solves many issues with the sim not starting or failing to update. Hi Noel, I am thinking of upgrading to Win 11 and it will be a fresh installation. would you have a list of steps you have undertaken to get MSFS up and running again? The thought of doing this somewhat fills me with fear lol It's been a while but as I recall I just did what anyone does to uninstall any program in Win 10--go to Apps and Features, select MSFS, Uninstall, reboot, reinstall via the MS Store if that's where you purchased. I don't use Win 11 so can't speak to anything different there, but I would imagine it's the same. All's well here so unless there is some compelling benefit to Win 11 would hold off myself. As a side note, I don't know why people go thru gyrations on this it's just not a big deal unless I suppose if you have poor internet bandwidth but if that's true I don't know how you use MSFS anyway. Uninstall, Reinstall, Done. Plus bonus, most or all my settings were retained including for my controllers. That will probably be true even w/ a new Win 11 install presumably.
