'The devil is in the details' was my motto in modeling. These photo's must be around 30 to 40 years old. Relics of my once beloved modeltrain hobby. Times when a telephone hung on the wall or stood at your desk. And you certainly couldn't shoot any photo's with it !  🙂

At least when the phone hung on the wall and you had to speak to a real life operator when you needed something done you had a ready source of friendly company through the phone and often for a coffee after their shift finished if you were in a new town and talked nicely.  Worked with phones but we did not need Only Fans.

Great piece of work Jan.  Model railroading brings out the artist in those who build them.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

That is beautiful work!  You've got talent I would say.

My one attempt to add in even simple terrain didn't work out as planned and my layout never got beyond models on a flat surface.

Looks great,  what kind of graphics cards do you use to get such good screenshots of your train program/

Not a program/screenshots as such Harry..... It's all dirty hands hard work. I.e. photos of my last model railroad.. Btw, my videocard is about average now i guess,  GF RTX 2080Ti  😉

Sorry to hear that, Dave. I found landscaping the most rewarding part of my modeltrain hobby. I still have my last endeavour up in the attic but all trains are gone, because of a back problem i can't work with it anymore. I particularly loved figuring out how to create mountain- or hillsides and water:

The river ( gathered a bit of dust over the years.. 😉 )

And the inevitable waterfall :

I do miss this kind of modeling of course. You can imagine i felt extremely blessed i could go on with that digitally with MSTS and Railworks.

Cheers and thanks,

Thank you, gents. It's a pity it all had to come to an end because of my back. But help is often not far away. I think i was one of the first here in Holland who bought a home computer ( Sinclair Spectrum 40K 😎 )

The demiise of what once was a dedicated and enthusiastic modeling career :

I felt very fortunate to be able to start all over again, this time digitally. Blood is thicker than water. 🙂

I like the ship Jan.  It was oh, so many years ago, that I built a fully rigged model of the Cuttysark, a yankee clipper ship much like yours.  And my plastic model airplane collection was given to neighborhood kids.  I only kept three; a P-51 Mustang, an F-86 Sabre, and an F-105D Thud.  Those were all done before computers and train and flight sims arrived on the scene and stole our time away.  The F-86 and F-105 were aircraft I actually worked on when I was in the Air Force.  And a good friend who recently passed away flew P-51 Mustangs during WW2.

For those of you that had model train sets as a kid, and enjoyed building your own dioramas, but like me may not have had enough space or even enough money for your ultimate dream setup, here is a nice little game, that just may scratch some of those latent itches

It can be played both in 2D or VR, is priced very competitively, allows you to both build and explore either small tabletop setups or the type of gigantic worlds that we were probably all jealous of when we looked at the lucky (and probably well-heeled hobbyists) in the magazines.

Might be worth a look, especially considering how cheap it is and what a massive bang for your buck that you can get out of it.

Here is an older review. And another look below. The game has become very popular and has advanced very far since then.....

Hi Noel,

It just *could* be the Cutty Sark ( i have a smaller one, fully sail rigged, in a dustfree showcase in the living) but it might also be the Thermopylae. Loooong time ago..

I worked with Cliff Presley and Dudley Henriques on our freeware F-86E/F model for FS9. Cliff flew the F-105 and Dudley flew the P-51 and was a well known display pilot. Rob Young did the flight dynamics and they helped him a lot to establish the flightmodel. Dunno if you ever tried it but it was a great joy to fly our Sabre model in FS9 if i say so myself. Rob was one of a kind regarding flightdynamics in FS9  We all had a wonderful time and learned a lot about that iconic jet.I lost contact with both gentlemen but i know Dudley works for A2A now.

Surely i did the F-86 and F-100 in plastic too, many years ago. 1:72 and the F-86 even in 1:32 as well. IIRC it was a Hasegawa model with seperate GE-J47 jet engine on a cart. Fond memories. 😉

I have about 10 plastic models left from the truckload i tried to make. Here's my left over F-105. Not sure about the brand anymore but it might've been the Monogram F-105F. ( i tried to shoot new photo's of it with my Galaxy G-9 but the complete left gear, right wheel and front canopy fell off....😬 ) So these very old ones have to do:

I keep 'em in a closet but that doesn't keep the glue from drying out...I'll see what i can do with superglue, that's quite a blessing today. 😎

@ Hi Flyer:  Thanks for that Rolling Line info ! 😎

Looks quite interestin\g and for only 17 euro i think i like to take a look at it. I lost interest in MSTS/Railworks/TSW many moons ago but the difference in approach might just do the trick start blowing that whistle again. I tried a few other railroad games but non of them got me interested for more than an hour. My fav game next to MSFS ( Ok NOT a game.. 😉 ) is Transport Fever 2. A lotta fun for quite a few years already. Let's see what Rolling Line gives. Thanks much again !

Jan

You're right Jan.  It is Cutty Sark,

Was that F-86 for FS9 the Section 8 one?  I flew that a lot in FS9.  I had a repaint for it for the one John Glen flew when he was a Marine exchange pilot flying for the Air Force.  His F-86 had Mig Mad Marine emblazoned on the side.

I no longer have my plastic models but I do have die cast models in 1/72 scale of a P-51 Mustang, an F-86 and an F-105 sitting on top the hutch on my desk.

BTW, The Virtavia F-105 for FSX flies pretty well in P3D.

Another plus is you and others can share your creations. A cool feature if you find some like minded enthusiasts.
