MSFS Camera system and views

Featured Replies

I find the camera system too complex compared to P3D 😬

Can anyone point me to a good guide on how to set up and cycle views easily?

Alternatively, are there any camera presets which anyone can recommend that would fit the CRJ/PMDG/Fenix?

Also, I'm really into wing views and missing them currently, so looking also to understand how to add them.

Just looking at the camera menu causes me a headache 😁

I agree that it is cumbersome compared to P3D.

One thing I do is set up in a new aircraft a separate profile for a controller for that aircraft.  For example I have little Logitech gamepad which has the little buttons etc. on it -- and I have this velcro'ed to the center of my yoke.  So in MSFS control settings, I set up the Logitech gamepad buttons to different views (i.e. pedestal, overhead, etc.) just like I can do with Chaseplane/P3D.  Anyway, in MSFS control menu's you will find an option for "Save Custom Camera View" or similar.  In MSFS control menus I set the Logitech's buttons to these saved views.

The net effect is similar to Chaseplane, where I can use my Logitech to zip around to various views.

It is NOT easy in MSFS to set this up but can be done.  Took me a couple of months to figure it out back in 2020.  I don't recall any vids or anything at that time but I'm sure there are some now.

One thing MSFS needs is a quick and easy spot view.  It has one, but it's thru the Drone Camera and that's a mess.

I'm just now getting into MSFS from P3D after waiting 22 months. I recently purchased the MS store version and already have an Xbox controller which I assume I can use for views like your Logitech. Question I have is will MSFS automatically assign other control functions to the Xbox? I hope not as I only desire the Xbox for various views in lieu of the keyboard or joystick (Fulcrum yoke).

Thanks I actually found camera presets on flightsim.to for pretty much all aircraft!

Not sure if it does that for the XBox controller, but I don't have one so I don't know if it assigns by default to it or not.    Anyway you should be able to change the functions/axes/buttons on the XBox controller to whatever you want thru the "controls" screen if it's like any other controller.

Hi Shomron - agreed that the camera system is cumbersome. It's actually quite powerful and configurable, but it is definitely not intuitive. This video is probably the best overall primer / overview and covers setting up custom views.

this  is  abit  like  chase  plane  if  you ever  had  it,  once  you  set it  up  per  the  video  you need  to  just  press  1 key  to  bring  it  to the  view  you have  set  up,  works  for  all aircraft  and  once  set  up initially  takes  about  2  mjintues  per  aircraft  to set  the  views  you want

As you have already probably found out, yes MSFS will load the Xbox controller with assignments for every button automatically. But it takes 5 minutes to remove them all. Just select the "search by input" box on the left in options and push any button on the controller. Then click to remove that assignment in the box over on the right and click 'validate'. That button is now clear. Repeat for all the hat positions. triggers, and buttons. It's repetitious, and boring, takes 5 minutes to clear all the assignments.

Since original release testing 2 years ago, I was reporting about the view system. How could it be so cumbersome to use? However everybody owes me one because I made the suggestion the it MUST at Least have the ability to saves 10 custom view positions on the numpad and then press the key to recall them. I gotta get credit for that.

Thank you very much; this is most helpful.

No. I made the same suggestion in the Beta testing. 🙂
