July 17, 20223 yr Hi folks. I stepped away from MSFS for a couple of months due to personal issues going on. Now I have moved and I just finished setting up my computers again. I have brought MSFS up to date and updated all add-ons that indicated they were needed. Today my questions just pertain to wind. 1. If I set up a flight and set the weather preset to clear skies, what does that mean about wind? Will there be any? Is there a way I can configure wind or is it just built into the sim in some way I can't control? 2. How do I see what the wind speed is and from what direction? At the moment I am playing with the TBM930 but the question is meant to be a general one. Thanks ........... July 17, 20223 yr If you just select a weather preset to clear skies I believe you will have 270/03 winds. The way you can configure your own winds is to select the CUSTOM box under Weather and Time. In there you can customize weather presets such as cloud layers, ceilings, cloud cover percentage, precipitation, wind speeds and direction amongst other things. To access this section your Multiplayer settings must be set to All Players or Off. When you click on an airport and select it as your departure or arrival airport in the world map, it should show you under the airport name what the wind speed and direction is. Is it done yet? When will it be released? Will it be freeware or payware? How much will it cost? Any updates on the progress? Will it work for Xbox? Can I be a beta tester? How's the performance in VR?
July 18, 20223 yr if you're using live weather, you can get wind info from many sources.. inside the sim, click on weather icon, and METAR button.. or you can get it from skyvector, metar-taf.com, aviationweather.gov etc.. I recommend using live weather as far as possible.. Vinod Kumar i9 10900K 5.3 Ghz, RTX 3090, 32GB RAM, Win 11. Alpha-Yoke, Bravo-Throttles, TM Joystick, TM-Rudder, 48" 4K TV.

There you can see and change the winds, including surface wind which I often turn off.. Bert
July 18, 20223 yr while we're on the subject of surface winds, how many of you use auto-rudder to turn off that nasty veering off the runway after touchdown.. are they trying to simulate weathervaning or something? haven't seen this effect in other sims.. but then again I havent flown too many GA in other sims.. so not a straight forward comparison.. is this effect overdone or is a small GA aircraft really that uncontrollable after touchdown in real life? I never use auto rudder, which really couples the aileron to the rudder. Just learn to use the rudder, never have crosswind problems.
