No lightning for live weather?

Featured Replies

I have noticed over the past several months, there is no longer any lightning flying into known thunderstorm areas using live weather. I fly almost 100% on VATSIM. Is live weather broke concerning this issue? Thanks for the replies in advance.

I see it occasionally in live weather but it's now a rare occurrence.  I haven't seen it for at least a month.

It used to be just the opposite, with lightning and thunder pummeling us with one puffy cloud in the sky.  I hope they will find a happy medium some day.

Be carful what you ask for, You remember the ridiculous lighting on release day? People using Vatsim should be more concerned about proper winds and visibility, baro etc.

I also haven't seen it for a couple months but saw it yesterday. The funny thing was there were no clouds in the sky. So, yes, it's broken.

I guess this is related to the issue where some airports with thunderstorms reported in the metar not having any clouds anywhere near the airport.

Yes I do remember. Saw lightning one time last year sitting on the tarmac at KMSY during one of the hurricanes.

The infamous Q&A quote of "What lightning in clear weather bug?" has now evolved to "What no lightning in live weather thunderstorms bug?" 😄

FYI I have seen live thunderstorms (yes with lightning) in SU9, I've yet to go storm chasing in SU10 Beta but will keep it in mind for another day.

I've seen more in SU10 than I have since whatever update 'fixed' the lightning in clear skies.

It's still not perfect match, but it's more than before.

I had a flight into KIAD on Sunday. Convective Sigmets in real world. Had quite a bit of lightning on approach in the sim.

Lightning observed in clear skies again between a lower partly cloud layer and some higher up clouds. Bug reported (SU10 BETA).
