Car theft is a massive problem in NJ right now.  We had someone try to get to both our cars in the driveway a couple of times.  Seemingly every time my truck is left out for the night they seem top appear.  But worse than that they are brazen now because they know there is no recourse from the law.  It's now become walking into peoples houses for keys, following them home and taking their car right out of their driveway as they get out or placing something on or in front of the car with the hope the driver gets in, then sees it and gets back out so they can take the car with the keys already in it.  In NJ they enacted laws a few years ago preventing officers from chasing these people and the stolen car rate has skyrocketed.  It's said within hours the stolen vehicles are at the port and on their way around the globe.  

Almost exclusively juveniles and all working with a criminal organization where they can feel rewarded without realizing how disposable they really are to the people in charge... 

So Blimey, it's grim over here too... 

Edit:  Just to add, our house is lit up like a light display at night including motion activated lights from the end of the driveway to the front door and cameras clearly visible.  No deterrent.  It wasn't until I took a ring wireless doorbell and put it IN my truck on the dashboard facing the drivers window with a piece of paper that said "smile" on it they actually left the truck alone and didn't try to get in...  So even lights and cameras didn't deter them.

Well of course! That is the common rationale after all. Yet, I persistently hear the constables misusing the word "floor" even when the suspect is hip deep in the weeds.  I now have heard at least one more copper using "ground," so that makes only two out of the dozens and dozens I've seen in the videos. 🤓

Out this way, catalytic converters from cars parked overnight on the street are a favorite target for thieves. Just takes them a few minutes to remove.

It’s something that drives me mad. Commentators in football (soccer) matches are equally guilty.

Floors are indoors, ground is outdoors. It’s not difficult. Just another aspect of the drive to the bottom when it comes to use of common sense.

Because clerk is pronounced clark and not klerrk.

A question to our American cousins. Do you find it unusual in this programme that none of these police officers are armed?

Is there an equivalent we Brits can watch just to see how you handle your undesirables.

Yes there is - a long running half-hour series called “Cops”, in which cameras accompany patrol officers in various police departments around the country. Not sure on which network it might be available in the UK - one cable network here that carries it is “Spike TV”. Lots of clips from the program on YouTube

Also LivePD who ironically is suing OnPatrolLive right now LOL  Not touching the gun question, conversations about guns between Brits and Americans generally don't end well LOL.  I find the professionalism of the British police really impressive.  Some of their comments are simply great but I also find watching British footie announcers great as well.  The brutal honesty in their commentary is brilliant.  I also find a lot of the traffic maneuvers they perform far more effective than what we do over here.  Especially the box maneuver where they surround the vehicle and force it to a stop.  Great execution when they do it right.

PS. There is no rhyme or reason to English pronunciation (British English anyway). It is what it is.
