Just installed the Northern Sky Yakutat scenery and did a few flights - while the payware scenery works ok very close to it I get a huge scenery “void” where there is just nothing - when I try and fly over it my plane went into a tumble! - anyone any idea how to fix it? (note had some issues with Alaska and certain payware airports not wanting to load before - but never managed to fix them…) - will try and post some - any idea what is happening and how to fix it?

Did you check it w/o Yakutat scenery viewing from the same point. Or even better, visit that area with a complete empty community folder, just to rule out that it comes from any add-on.

1)Didn't try it without....but I can

2)I did empty the community folder - but only Alaska related scenery  and got the same result - would you say its worthwhile clearing it completely and is there a quick way to do this? - could you just change the name of the folder and add in an empty "community" folder? (note I have lots of scenery installed via a link from contrail and orbx - what would happen to these links if I change the community folders name?)

Try deleting the content.xml file and all of the .dat file from the SceneryIndexes folder (C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAMER\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\SceneryIndexes)

1)can give it a try - note running the steam version of MSFS - does the above still apply?

2)managed to find the "_8wek" folder but in that I have no local cache or scenery index only a "local state" and then "packages" folder? (note also my "community" folder is in another dedicated ssd)

 

It should. Steam must have put them somewhere else. Try searching for SceneryIndexes on your C drive in Explorer.

Last time I saw anything like that, I had to remove the Langoliers mod from my community folder. 
Although that tends to start on the eastern coast of the USA for me anyway, around Bangor, Maine.

your name/AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator is the site of ScenneryIndexes for steam MSFS

That was a really weird & cool movie too.. 

Apologies to @mac44.    I can't offer any other suggestions other than what the guys have put forward above.  I hope you find a fix, but that is a weird one - never seen anything like that before.

Just a wild stab in the dark. Clear the scenery cache, that may cause a conflict if you use it and installed new stuff.

sorry got distracted by XP12😂 and trying to find the movie😆

none of the suggestions seem to work but I will try clearing the cache which I do have running..................

I may try and clear the community folder and see if anything in there is clashing - out of interest if I simply change the name of the "real" community folder and then create a new empty one is this going to work ok? (have a few "links" from the orbx and contrail store in my folder so just wondering if doing this will create any issue for them?)
