It is rare but happens, look it up. There are guys that buy the game but cannot download it, right at first. The Windows Store and the Xbox apps are very buggy. I now have the Steam version and it is solid.

1. First MSFS Install was on W10

2. Upgraded same system to W11 -> no issues with MSFS

3. Did a full clean install with W11 on a new M.2 SSD -> no issues with MSFS

4. Got a new PC -> again a new clean W11 -> again no issue with MSFS

Remark: Before touching the new PC I took care to uninstall everything AND unregister that PC from any Store and MS Account (this is something that gets forgotten a lot).

I never had ANY issues with ANY of the updates MSFS pushed out (it was only once when the XBOX App did not update itself and the Update had to be pushed manualy...a matter of 10 min. of investigation).

Good to know: some issues come from simple things like special characters in user names....

Do you run the Steam version or Store version?  I'm assuming Steam since you said you uninstalled Store/MS Account stuff.

I said I uninstalled Store (and unregistered) from the OLD PC before setting (touching) the new rig (maybe it was not that clear).

@warbirds sure some do have issues but we should be careful with terms like "many" / "a lot" / etc. Do you happen to know how many copies of MSFS Store version ASOBO actualy sold to compare that number with the number of complaints?

No! Im not beeing a smart a$$ and I'm sorry that you as a DEV actualy ran into such issues. Since you are a DEV you must certanly understand SW better than me (as a design engineer).

With my post I tried to tell the world that there are some users out there who do not encounter such errors...

MANY people have had problems with the windows store/gaming service. I spent two weeks multiple accounts, reinstalls, emails, nothing worked. Finally I took some ones advice... Buy it through STEAM...

Just buy it again through STEAM, and be done with it, it just works...

This could be the source of errors for many people.  Thanks for clarifying what you did...

It's weird that you would have to uninstall and unregister on the old pc, but I get it.  You would think a (modern) system could be designed to be more hardware-agnostic than some hash based on one's hardware (maybe they don't do that, but it sounds like they do).   Whatever Steam does appears to work quite well, why can't the MS Store do the same?

Are you serious ? Guess there always has to be one. To all the other posters , thanks for the help and I now have Steam so no more hassel with the MS Store or Xbox app.

This is also needed when you upgrade / buy a new smartphone. Just look for the steps you need to do to actualy break any connection with your old smartphone.

In case of MS you have ONE account and can log in from multiple PC from your household. So any PC connecting to your profile / Store / Xbox / etc. will register a unique MAC into your account. So at some point you have to clean it all up....

Your attitude and tone surprises me but yeah..this is what you get if you don't share the pain of others.

Did you miss the hint "unregister your PC from Store" or "check your username for special characters" or the fact that I tell you that "you as a DEV have more experience as I do"....

BTW: ASOBO already sold over 1 million of copies within 2 monts after the release....so yeah...do the math and see how MANY actually have issues with it.

To protect yourself from this happening to you do this. If you have a perfect running system and MSFS is fine then create a restore point on your windows 10 or 11- if this happens just restore windows to that saved  point - I sure wish I had done that but who knew ?

Or just buy via Steam.
