Be sure to set a restore point and you can always go back to that if a problem comes up

I have dual 2TB NVMe m.2 drives so I clone one to the other and have a complete backup which is best if you can do it because you're also backing up the entire to a separate drive where if you have drive failure your restore point won't help.  You can also save an image on a separate external drive.

I've done one reinstall of Win 10 due to a booting issue (converted to UEFI BIOS so I could be Win 11 compliant, if n when) and with it a reinstall of MSFS but as I went thru the MS Store my purchases and all else (all settings including controller) were restored.

You might try finding and deleting EVERY INSTANCE of MSFS folders on your system. Most uninstall processes leave other folders behind (Settings and things it saves). I'm not sure about all the folders MSFS installs from the Store App, but I'd check Program Data, Users\Microsoft, etc. If you find them Delete them. Then it may be wise to get CCleaner and run the Registry editor and clean out anything referenced to MSFS there too. That should allow a fresh start over. To find your specific folder structure try Google. Good Luck and Never Give Up.. (You Paid for it) 🤠

Thanks, I did remove all traces of the sim and windows redo took care of what I missed. As for the registry I ran Powershell scans of that and windows 10 and my pc and all clean.

I hate the MS store as much of anyone but the OP issues does not happen to everyone and I was able to fix it for many users in the past.

Wish you lived next door 🙂

Wish I could but pc is to outdated and not eligible.

Uh oh I wonder if it's down to hardware.  What are the specs of the PC?  I have no plans to move to Win 11 unless it offers real advantages over Win 10 performance-wise in MSFS.

What happens if you enabler Long File Name support in Windows 10?

I've noticed my Community folder is behind such a long string of random characters that I can't directly install stuff there but end up having to do some funky things to add 3rd party modules.

MSFS is the only game I have from the store. I can download apps from the store with no  problem though.

Do you have gamepass? Do a quick test, download Jurassic World Evolution 2 and see if you can play it.

I had an issue once where I cannot play any microsoft store games, but i managed to fix it.  Was wondering if you have the same problem as me.

warbirds, you uninstalled the ms store and xBox app. I know that whenever I uninstall an app by using windows,  it does not fully uninstall. Almost never. Therefore I use iObit uninstaller. It interfaces with the control panel 'Programs And Features' uninstall screen. There will be a new 'powerful uninstall' heading up on top.

So now I am presented with a choice, right click and choose Uninstall. That's the Windows uninstaller. Or instead highlight the app and click 'powerful uninstall'.

First thing powerful uninstall does is the normal windows uninstall. Then next it ALWAYS pops up a screen that shows all the registry keys which that app installed and ask if you want to uninstall those too. I ALWAYS answer yes and then it proceeds to remove every trace in the registry. Windows uninstall almost always leaves lots and lots and lots of traces (registry keys).

I  have used this program for 15 years. It's free and it never did anything bad. It takes your registry back to where you were before the computer ever saw the app in the first place. It also works on other subfolders and files the app created, not just the registry.

And unlike windows system restore backup, it can remove even 10 year old keys, if you had a registry that ancient. In other words there is no time limit as to how far back in time you can go. Windows restore always removes old restore points after a couple months, or so it seems to me.

And also unlike windows restore, it only changes the reg keys associated with that one particular app. It will not at all affect any other reg key (like Windows system restore always does).

I read page one and page four of this topic, but not page 2.  Sorry.  Just see the everything but the kitchen sink in the way of helping suggestions.   I had an issue similar back over a year ago.  Don't recall if it was introduced by a sim update.  Took me about a week to cure it.  In my case it ended up that either Windows, xBox, or the Microsoft Store got mismatched in regard to my MSFS User ID, and the culprit kept auto-defaulting back to a bad User ID.  i.e. not the User ID I registered with for insider at the MS Flight Simulator site.  I have records of several Microsoft User ID's from over the years and that exacerbated finding the resolution.  I finally found a confirmation email from my MSFS site registration on my seldom used old laptop and used ccleaner to clear cobwebs out of my temp internet files and browsers.  I also checked my Windows Defender and MalwareBytes for conflicts.

An overriding problem here is that at least in my case Microsoft has refused to consolidate all of my previous purchase and support requests under one User ID.  Things like Windows and MS Office purchases and updates from over the years.  So I have a number of them floating around in the big MS box in the sky.

Makes me want to go Steam when I rebuild my rig.

I didn't realize I would *lose* my Marketplace purchases?  If true, that doesn't seem fair.   If true, I'll just steel myself for potential problems when installing everything.

There have been claimed instances on and off where the issue seems to be connected to the MS account and allegedly even has followed users from one PC to the next.

Unfortunately it is true. Your marketplace purchases do not switch between Store and Steam, or the other way around. One of the major reasons I've chosen to buy most addons outside the in-game Store. Just in case I ever switch, I don't want to have invested a bunch of cash into either platform.

If you buy from the developer directly, you don't need to worry about this.

That doesn't always work, either.  I've had problems (not with MSFS) where I thought a restore would fix it but, instead, after a great deal of disk churning, I got a "System Restore Failed" message.  (Or the system restore "completed" normally but the problem was still present.)  In at least one case, the only solution was to wipe the drive and do a complete clean install.

I seriously doubt if your ISP speed has anything to do with problems with MSFS.

MSFS has many bugs and problems, name one piece of software or hardware for that matter that is perfect? deal with it or go take a walk. Some People hate Windows to the core but can't use P3D or MSFS without it.

@warbirds the issue you describe is quite odd and I for myself experienced exactly the opposite.

1. First MSFS Install was on W10

2. Upgraded same system to W11 -> no issues with MSFS

3. Did a full clean install with W11 on a new M.2 SSD -> no issues with MSFS

4. Got a new PC -> again a new clean W11 -> again no issue with MSFS

Remark: Before touching the new PC I took care to uninstall everything AND unregister that PC from any Store and MS Account (this is something that gets forgotten a lot).

I never had ANY issues with ANY of the updates MSFS pushed out (it was only once when the XBOX App did not update itself and the Update had to be pushed manualy...a matter of 10 min. of investigation).

Good to know: some issues come from simple things like special characters in user names....
