September 15, 20223 yr Commercial Member I have had this sim from the first time it came out. Recently it would not open so I uninstalled it and went to reinstall like I have done several times in the past. It would not let me reinstall. Both the Xbox app and Windows store app returned an error. I researched the error and spent a week trying all the fixes listed on various help sites, none worked. I have been in contact with MSFS support and Microsoft support and they keep passing the buck, saying it is not their problem and sending back to the other useless support. You may say I have not tried it all, yes there maybe something I missed but I have reinstalled windows 10 and the Windows store app and the xbox app and gaming service and on and on. I have run powershell scans and found windows 10 to be perfect and my pc to be without errors. On forums I have chatted with computer gurus that can fix anything and they cannot fix this. In fact support admits there is nothing more to do. Now this does happen to others, maybe one percent of users and it is rare so your chances of it happening to you are slim - but do a search, it does happen. I work for flight sim developers and now that I cannot use MSFS anymore I am out of a job so to speak. There is a way around this problem. Because the problem is with the Xbox app and the Windows store app I can avoid those and purchase the game from Steam which uses it's own download system,,,but I will lose all my Marketplace planes and airports I have bought. Oh, I also applied for a refund and told them my job depended on this sim but they declined. I am sure you are fine but maybe one day your game will not open and you try to download and get errors instead - good luck with that. To protect yourself from this happening to you do this. If you have a perfect running system and MSFS is fine then create a restore point on your windows 10 or 11- if this happens just restore windows to that saved point - I sure wish I had done that but who knew ? September 15, 20223 yr Deleted my previous post . I'm not sure why you needed to uninstall and reinstall multiple times but that's none of my business. But if you forsee yourself doing that multiple times then your probably better off using the steam version .. For my use case .. (Installing once and reinstalling only in very unforeseen circumstances the store version works for me) I also get the additional option of installing a copy on my Xbox series X if i wanted to do so without having to purchase another copy so i see the value in sticking with the MS store version. But good luck in getting your issue resolved. September 15, 20223 yr I had this essentially happen to me when I totally changed to a new PC I built. I don't even remember the fix but it took a few weeks to get it totally working again. The xbox app is the worst software I've seen in a while. I've used Steam since before Steam was a thing haha (owned valve games before steam was introduced).... that app is wonderful - I've used it for multiple PC's with one account or multiple accounts on one PC - it's perfect. The whole xbox and marketplace ecosystem needs major rework. For starters, we should be able to see MP products without going into the sim. That should have been a no-brainer. But yes as far as managing different installs/PC's, the xbox app is terrible. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
September 15, 20223 yr Didn't get into that sort of bad luck yet, could happen to anyone indeed. Don't know or maybe didn't read well the OP but maybe trying to install on a different PC to see how it goes? even in lesser powerful PC just for checking? Anyway I'm on MS / Xbox game account but if something terrible happens with my MSFS account, would change to Steam in a heartbeat and accept the Marketplace losses. Alexander Colka

September 15, 20223 yr I had a similar problem back around SU5. I even bought the Steam version at one point, but I eventually got the MS Store version working. I too cannot recall every step, but . . . without question it was Microsoft Store/Xbox App issue -- not an MSFS one. In particular, I recall that some update to Store or the Xbox app put the two programs out of sync. It was not until I did a Windows 10 feature update (one of the big half-yearly upgrades) that the two programs "righted" themselves. One other thing the OP mentioned was losing marketplace items. I have only a couple of items from the marketplace for exactly this reason. Simply put, don't buy anything from the marketplace if you have a PC. And of course, make backups. It can't hurt.
September 15, 20223 yr Sorry to hear of your trouble. Good advice too. Since the very git-go, MS has been incapable of writing XB software for the PC. Xbox Games for Windows: disaster. Xbox app: can work, but can get soft-locked: disaster. I don't see how the company that wrote Windows and the constellation of software around Windows can't seem to do this. But then, why should I be surprised about anything, anymore. September 15, 20223 yr It could not be MSFS it self, have you had gamepass and tried playing other microsoft store games? And did they connect/work?
September 15, 20223 yr Try upgrading to Windows 11? It's free, and it stands to reason that the most recent O.S. might work.
