Fenix Good Utilisation with new drivers/SU10 with some help.

Featured Replies

Sorry for the terrable screenshot but here you can see the Utilisation with the SU10, New Studio drivers and Fexnix update under DX12 DLSS quality.

It does need some work to get this. If you wish to see this spead, this is what I did and without doing what I did it does not work as good as the above.

Start the Fenix app to log in. Always do this before anything.

Open task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del)

Task Manager.

Details Tab.

Find the Fenix app.

Right click on it.

Set Affinity ( you need to adapt this to you CPU and to the core MSFS likes to hammer in my case core 19)

Windows stuff seems to always like core 0-1.

So uncheck box 0-1 and in my case 18-19.

Dont close the Task manager.

Start MSFS.

When on the opening interface screen.

Bring up the task manager.

Now look for Fenix bootstrap and again un check cores 0-1 and in my case cores 18-19

Start your flight and for the last time look at task manger

Now you have a new Fenix app running the Fenix displays app ( NOTE: All the other Fenix app will now be running as the same as you set the Fenix bootstrap thats why you needed to do that before starting the flight)

For me its already only running on cores 10-19 but thats wrong ( dont run on my core 19 thank you) so I uncheck 18-19.

Job done.

You can now within task manger goto the performance tab, click the top CPU, right click on the large graph on the right, "change graph to = press "logical processers" option to see all of your cores.

Hopefully enjoy what you see. Keep everything you can off your MSFS core that MSFS likes to "use/hammer"

It really takes seconds to do this once you have done it a few time. Do you have to do this? No. Do you want the Fenix not cloging up your CPU power for MSFS? or anything else taking away from what MSFS can do? in my case a big NO.

Hope this helps?

Thanks for this, a question if you don’t mind!

You say to keep of the core that MSFS uses the most, you say yours is 19 to why do you untick 18 and 19 and not just 19?

Also, do you have to do this every time you want to use Fenix, or is it saved after doing it once?

Thanks!

My 3080 is at 9500-9800 so I "think" DX12 is managing VRAM alright. 3090 guys see a lot more VRAM in use it seems MSFS with DX12 is making use of what "you" have avalable so yes high numbers are good.

I have HT on hence 20 "cores . Its not 20 cores its HT, to long a story but the "main core" is 18 with 19.

So imo its best to turn of 19 with its "main thread" 18. Think of it as I have 10 cores and 10 helpers. So I like to turn of the "core" and the HT "core/thread"

yes you have to do it every time, unless you use a programe called  processer lasso and i really did not like that. So I do as above every flight, it takes seconds to do.

So with no hyper threading you can just stop Fenix using the 1 core that MSFS seems to use the most?

Yes, start a flight open task manager and look at your CPU's, all you have to do is note the one core MSFS hammers. Please note your number 1 core is not 1 but 0, Just make sure you know the right one, if you move your mouse over the graph it tells you the number of that core. Take anything that you use with MSFS off that MSFS core.

As i have Process Lasso, i could see clearly from the rules that Fenix already use a custom affinity for Fenix App/displays. On my setup for 11900k Fenix use always cores from 0-7 for Fenix applications  while MSFS main heavy task is always hammering the n15 core.

I thought lasso prevented ms2020 from opening? Or is this fixed?

Search on the web for and install the program 'Prio - Process Priority Saver'.
It allows you to save the affinity you specify for any process using Windows' Task Manager. Retains your settings upon each boot up, until there is a significant Windows update installed.

Hey David,

How are you finding the quality of the glass panels with DX12 & DLSS?

I tried DLSS yesterday on DX11 and the glass panels on the PMDG & Fenix did not seem to be upscaled properly, they appeared to be out of focus almost and there was a weird refresh thing going on with the speed & altitude displays.

Could not get this to set affinty but a youtube  vid pointed me to.

https://www.bill2-software.com/processmanager/download-en.shtml   NOTE: DL the zip not the mirror links.

This is perfect, tips from working with it for 10 min, you have to set rules as thats how it will work on saving setting, Set no "balloons" to show as it set setting on apps. Also set the app itself to below normal and to use just 1 core. Auto start with window and lastly goto taskbar on closing. What a perfect app this is.

TIP delete all languages apart from US-ENG.

Yes there a problem but shapening to 200 really helps. I will take it for the way it users CPU's. Also I dont have my eye down that much my custom view in the 737 shows no screens llike wise with the Fenix.

Happy if you have another program that does the same thing.

If anyone else is still interested, Prio - Process Priority Saver is an install and forget program. Once installed, there's no app to set anything.
Just go to Windows' Task Explorer, 'Details' tab and set affinity on the applicable running processes and the program will remember your selections.

Bill's 2 app is a game changer. Set up and forget but best of all you only need to set up your apps with it once.

The screenshot Ive shown is with MSFS and the Fenix ONLY.

My Apps I run along side/with MSFS are

TrackIR / Pilot2ATC / FSUIP 7 / vAMSYS / ATC Chatter

Since now this is a one set up and forget I am going to set all the above apps to run ONLY on HT cores HT 0-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 as you can see MSFS and The Fenix likes main cores.

Nothing will touch HT X (9)

I could not get it to save/keep affinity or I would use it. Do you have the paid version? Becasue it only saved the prirority for me.
