TAA v DLSS Quality DX12

Recommended Posts

Have tried both of the above settings in DX11 and DX12 (with the new Nvidia studio driver) and have hardly noticed any difference in FPS or smoothness.  TAA looks better for picture quality though.

What have your experiences been?

Early days of SU10 testing for me but have not encountered any problems so far other than performance seems little (if any) better than before so far.

None between the two. But with DLAA I notice shimmering effect.

TAA is a lot sharper, with DLSS the GPU is working less and running a lot cooler but with faster frame rates, but the picture is slightly blurred.

I did try the studio driver but for some reason it was not using any of the GPU ram, so I went back to the gaming driver, I will carry  on using TAA for now.

I repost the comment I added to the main SU10 thread:

I'm still experimenting but, although overall being more than happy with SU10 through my Reverb G2 (they've sorted the tool bar pop ups!!!!!! 🙂 ) , I was nevertheless getting no benefits in FPS or smoothness initially with either DLSS or DX12.

That is, until I followed the words of the wise sages round here and:

- Updated the nVidia driver to Studio Driver 517.40

- Then turned on DX12

- Then tried DLSS (Balanced)

Results?

Without DLSS (ie, TAA) :  FPS around 42 in VR;  Cockpit text and buttons sharp;  External view good but micro judders when looking directly down at scenery from 11000ft

With DLSS (Balanced)   :  FPS around 58 in VR; Cockpit text and buttons not bad, but less sharp than when using TAA; External view crisp, smooth, no micro judders when looking directly down at scenery from 11000ft

So better FPS & smoother externals with the new Studio Driver + DX12  + DLSS.  Once I find the magic method to also keep the in-cockpit sharpness, I will be a very happy bunny indeed !

I’m definitely not in the 3090ti club. I have an ancient i7 3930k o.c’d to 4Ghz and an rtx2070.

Last night I downloaded the studio driver and had a play around.

 I’m running a 1080p screen. I was running in DX11 locked at 30fps.

Now I’m running DX12 with dlss locked at 60fps and I’ve upped my settings 😲.

Time to think about a new monitor 😀

Text degradation is too significant to justify a small perfomance increase in exterior views.

TAA:

Currently DX12 + TAA is working well for me.

BTW, is there any idea about when the Game Ready driver will be released ?

Yes - me too, to be honest.  I will carry on experimenting with some of the sharpness stuff and the other settings of DLSS (only used 'balanced' so far) but, like you, most of my time is spent looking at the instruments with an occasional look outside.  As such, the micro judder I am definitely seeing with DX12 + TAA, that I am not seeing with DX12 + DLSS, is not an issue as the smoothness inside the cockpit is the same (judderless) in both cases.

So, unless I can sharpen up the cockpit details, then yes, I will also be using DX12 + TAA most of the time.

if you have the GPU horsepower, DLSS Quality + 2x Secondary Scaling in UserCFG looks better than TAA.

That's interesting.  As I'm still CPU bound, I will give that a try.

What does secondary scaling do then?  I always wondered that when I saw it in the user config file.

Call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind, but I prefer Rob.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

you mean change this to 2.000000     (SecondaryScaling 1.000000) ?

What is Secondary Scaling?
