In game Vsync: does it still work in the beta?

Featured Replies

I've seen a couple messages saying Vsync setting in MSFS latest beta does nothing. It also does nothing on my system (I'm using the beta). If I change from 1/2 to 1/3 to 100%, then the frame rates will still zoom higher than my monitor refresh rate.

I noticed in usercfg.opt that the VSync on/off setting that used to be near the top is no longer there.

An old Usercfg.opt from a year ago:

Version 66
{Video
Adapter "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER"
    Monitor 0
    Windowed 1
    FullscreenBorderless 0
    Resolution 1920 1046
    FullScreenResolution 1920 1080
    PrimaryScaling 2.000000
    SecondaryScaling 1.000000
    PrimaryScalingVR 0.800000
    SecondaryScalingVR 1.000000
    VSync 1
    HDR10 0
    Raytracing 0

------

In the latest MSFS version's  usercfg.opt file does not list that VSync option line, except it does have one for VR VSync.

And the in game menu VSync setting does nothing on my system. (Latest SU 11 beta).

Vsync works for me in beta.

Wow, then it's just me and couple others. And is a mystery.

I have vsync on in both MSFS (beta) and Nvidia. I know, it sounds stupid, but it gives me best results.....

VSync is working fine for me as well.

It is still in UserCfg.opt, in pretty much the same position, but there's been a bunch of stuff added before it. My video section looks like this:

Version 66
{Video
	Adapter "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090"
	Monitor 0
	Windowed 1
	FullscreenBorderless 1
	WindowActive 0
	Resolution 3840 1080
	FullScreenResolution 5120 1440
	PosX 1164
	PosY 85
	AntiAliasing TAA
	DLSSMode QUALITY
	DLSSG 0
	Reflex ON
FSRMode BALANCED
	PrimaryScaling 1.000000
	SecondaryScaling 1.000000
	SharpenAmount 1.000000
	ReprojectionMode 0
	WorldScalePercentVR 0
	AntiAliasingVR TAA
	DLSSModeVR PERFORMANCE
	DLSSGVR 0
	ReflexVR ON
FSRModeVR PERFORMANCE
	PrimaryScalingVR 0.800000
	SecondaryScalingVR 1.000000
	SharpenAmountVR 1.000000
	VSync 1
	HDR10 0
	Raytracing 0
	PreferD3D12 1
}

You can see that it still there fourth line from the bottom.

What may be confusing some people is that the VR settings are mixed in now, instead of in their own section.

Since SU8 I found the in sim Vsync not to be that consistent. I have found the best results are by using Vsync - On in NVCP and then use Riva Tuner to cap my fps at 50. This gives me a perfectly smooth frametime graph and zero stutters.

Yes that was what was confusing me. Anyway Vsync is on but it does absolutely nothing. Frame rates still zoom higher past the sync. I'm in beta DX 12

I enabled vsync in SU10 but still had screen tearing. So I enabled it in NVCP.

vsync in sim SU11 beta is rock solid for me

I'm also in the Beta and using DX12.

What is the monitor refresh rate set to in Windows? And which VSync option did you choose (50%, 33%, 20%)?

60 HZ. I used 100%, 50%, 33%.

I also tried 120 Hz at 33%

fps did not lock with Vsync on. During the menus fps would sometimes soar over 200. In the game when supposedly locked at 20 fps would even go up to a little over 60.

For a couple years or so I did not have this problem.

In other words it makes no difference when I turn Vsync on or off in MSFS general options.

By the way Vertical Sync and Maximum Frame Rate are both OFF in Nvidia CP.

But if I turn ON Maximum Frame Rate in NCP, it holds. If I set 42 in NCP, fps will never go above that.

When turning VSync on in MSFS, is Vertical Sync set to "Use the 3D application setting" in the NCP? And Maximum Frame Rate set to "Off"?

Thanks, Jim, that solved it. In Nvidia Control Panel I had Vertical Sync set to OFF instead of to  "Use the 3D application setting". Now VSync works in MSFS like it should.
