See? You complained about people being nasty to other people but here I a critiquing a sim and a sentiment attached to it, not a person. I really wish you could learn to be consistent.

In the sim you refer, I flew 30+ minutes at max icing conditions in the C172 and it would still continue flying. I have a _very slight_ suspect that would not be the case in real life. So maybe it's you who's making silly assumptions?

And I'm supposed to trust that like I was suppose to trust what you said in the OP that was proven false? Come on now lol.

Sure, that's why pilots who fly an aircraft not certified for ice conditions are required to exit icing conditions, when encountered, AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Lol.

time to check with the real experts.

todays darwin award goes to people who take msfs icing seriously by the looks of it.

Nice videos. I quote the guy in the C172 after entering the freezing clouds:

"I was able to maintain 4000 ft for a couple of minutes".

I assume, you meant my words. Well - there's no doubt that there are people who "want to fly over their house" (and there's nothing wrong with it, if they like it). I didn't criticize it, but you interpreted it as such. I didn't criticize "a person" (namely you or any other one specifically), but if you feel addressed by it ... 🤷‍♂️

But you seem to be allowed to criticize a sim, whereas I am not? 😵

Now we're going (partly) into nitpicking. However, let's talk about major weather simulation: I posted the below video already once. Entering precipitation, temperature etc. manually and the result is ... falling from the sky (what would overwhelm the casual gamer/simmer and that's why it isn't implemented in ... guess where 😁). That's what I call - to remain on topic - "The X-Plane difference."

I'm going to have to disagree here. And as some have already pointed out, its kind of bigging up an issue in order to claim "superiority" when in fact the difference is fairly miniscule to the vast majority.

In point of fact, the initial implementation of icing in The other simtm was actually quite aggressive, and indeed, planes fell out of the sky in large numbers. What happened then? Well, whining of course, lots and lots of whining, with page after page and thread after thread in multiple venues about the "ridiculous" and "unrealistic" icing in this obvious "game". (apparently the worst insult you can make on a sim forum)

People all over asked and gave and received advice about disabling the "absurd" conditions that were knocking them from the sky with regularity in certain conditions, and it appears that Asobo may have quietly complied over time, and dialed things back a bit to something customers found more manageable and were less likely to have cows and kittens about.

To me, whether doing so was the right or wrong solution probably largely depends on ones native level of OCD on these types of things.

I think they're birds of a feather ultimately, sorry Krakin but it's how I've seen it for a while)  and quite frankly I don't like it at all the automatic attack the other sim, no matter which platform the poison darts are thrown from. It is so juvenile really.  Facts and other information, opinions, etc are great but tacit insults or other disguised or overt ad homonym comments are uncalled for it just reduces the quality of time spent here for most users.

probably rates among the shortest, concise, least offensive explanation of the difference between a game and simulator in the history of that most epic of forum fights.

Sigh.....

When I made that post, I was thinking I was playing with fire, and would just hop on and then flee as quickly as possible.

There's a reason why I now try like heck to avoid this subforum, and then by extension and association, X-plane.

Thanks for reminding me.

huh, I was praising you? Its a good observation and explanation of the difference.

With a game the developer can and will bend the rules of the world to match what is popular.

With a simulator just because something isnt popular doesnt mean its wrong, and, e.g. fugly weather looks.... fugly.

I dont think there is any kind of criticism there particularly, it is a clear and concise explanation of the difference in popularity of the two sims I have come accross.

Matt already put you in your place on the issue so you crawled back to this subforum where the other copium users could happily agree with your inaccuracies.

Visibility in MSFS cannot be set to precise values, there isn't any slider for visibility!

Pressure altitude deviations due to temperature deviations are not simulated when using manual weather (just try it for yourself, if you know how to do it);

Icing, as even other people said here, has been dumbed down by user request, so that aircraft can unrealistically fly in icing conditions for extended periods of times;

pitot icing is unrealistically modeled because airspeed reading is simply frozen and not reacting to altitude variations (contrary to what happens in XP);

aircraft keep flying with failed engine and unfeathered prop (try the default Diamond, for example);

All of these things you can test by yourself in MSFS: I advice  you do it before coming here again with your incorrect info!

I have a strongly suspicion that, for example, when in the PSX forums someone says: "I love PSX because it models this detail more realistically than PMDG 747", there's not a bunch of MSFS users flocking to the forum to aggressively have an argument about that;

And when in the CondorSoaring forums someone says: "I love CondorSoaring because it models this detail more realistically than other sims", there's not a bunch of MSFS users flocking to aggressively have an argument about that.

And so on and so on.

But then, when users of a flight simulator (always the same one) flock here to attack and argument against another flight simulator (always the same one), it is the X-Plane community to be defined "toxic" and something "to avoid".

For things like these, words fail me.
