November 23, 20223 yr Here at 22 N we've never had DST. But the work day commonly starts early, like 7 am. Partly due to heat, partly due to being 6 hours behind the US east coast in summer. scott s. .

You’re in the tropics where there aren’t really any conventional seasons. Probably just wet and dry. I envy you in our winter but long summer evenings here are great. Ray (Cheshire, England). November 27, 20223 yr I used to be operations manager at a radiotelescope observatory when I was younger. Because of the high accuracy of the telescope, leap seconds were important. I had to go in whenever one happened to reset the clocks and make any changes to the ephemeris files. Leap seconds are not regular like leap years. They are announced and measured by international authorities like the Naval Observatory in Washington. We were all friends and nowhere near as serious as it sounds. I’m retired now, Permanent Daylight Saving Time sounds good to me.

I don't care which as long as we don't have to go through the set-forward, set-back exercise twice a year. Noel I second that. But another interesting factor is the extremes of a given time zone. For example Brest France and Debrecen Hungary. They're not even the utmost extremes, but about the same latitude, same time zone, and longitudinal difference would put them almost 2 hours apart. I was recently caught in a traffic jam around 5:30 to 6:30 pm where it took about an hour to travel a mere 5 km. I thought more work from home and more time flexibility would be good, but obviously difficult. Lots of people still need to be at the same place at the same time. Another alternative, we all just switch to UTC. Some of us happen to get up at 0200 and go to bed at 1800, depending on where we're located, but it's just numbers. Far northern or far southern, like Patagonia type places could still adjust their schedules according to the seasons. I guess all things considered though I like 12 noon to be just that, midday, and am glad I live somewhat in the center of my time zone. I wish they'd do away with DST, but mainly it's the switching back and forth I don't like so much.

November 28, 20223 yr Moderator The major side-effect of DST change is that it totally screws up my circadian rhythm, which results in me suffering from insomnia for a month or two. In addition, DST is determined on a county level in Indiana which I am happy to not have to put up with any longer! For about three months I had to make the drive from Warsaw, Indiana to Munster, Indiana, having been promoted to be the Manager of the local Radio Shack. The local "time" changed three times as I transited through the counties along the way. It was very confusing! 😵 Fr.
