You work for laminar do you?

No, but I do a fair amount of development for xplane and listen to what they plan and the direction they are going in, of which there are a few things to be aware of.

1. What Austin says isnt the voice of god, e.g. he floated the idea XP12 to be subscription based, and was quickly talked out of it by everyone.

2. People often misinterpret what gets said or say things that just are not true, its always a good idea to get XP dev plans direct from Laminar. Vulcan was a nightmare for this. With people claiming it would work better on AMD than NVidia, and that laminar promised it would include all new scenery assets and lighting in XP11.

As of this moment they have been very vague about their future plans for scenery, nothing at 1.08.31 is any more specific than has been said for years - Austin wants to move from a believable world to a fully realistic 3D world, (and from previous discussions orthopohoto/sat images are not his solution to that)

So he’s gonna stream a 3D world is he? Man oh man….. I can see why people don’t come in this forum. Nitpicking.

PS just for you; it’s satellite.

The org forum isn't any better. Don't you dare say anything that contradicts their opinion out there.

To me it's pretty clear, he did mention scenery streaming like MSFS has, and the u-turn is clearly because of MSFS. You can really tell Austin reevaluated a lot of his opinions about how x-plane should be based on the success of MSFS and I feel like now they've started listening to what users want.

And to be honest I have no idea how that same scene would look today in MSFS due to all sim updates, but probably not too far off ?
But I still remember that flight and how it just captured the mood, as you said. It was almost carbon copy from real life.

Can't you simply try again? If it's your home airport, you should know the position it was taken at and the time of day looks like shortly before sunset.

And again for me XP12 is much more balanced in brightness in most real weather scenarios.I feel better overall with XP lighting wise. There's something magical about the XP12's lighting.

Magical by day maybe, but certainly not at night. It's like they haven't touched it at all.

Check RC1. Night lighting looks awesome now. Still some tuning to be done though.

Be careful though. Apparently it is kind of a botched release.

Friendly reminder: WHITELIST AVSIM IN YOUR AD-BLOCKER. Especially if you're on a modern CPU that can run a flight simulator well. These web servers aren't free...
