I'll be absolutely blunt here and point out, no one has anything to be particularly "proud" of when it comes to clouds right now. Better than we had... hmm maybe... makes some nice sky boxes sure.... but in terms of real life, they all just about capture the sheer beauty of real clouds as level 6 orthophoto captures the beauty of the Queen Mary's Rose Gardens.

I can see that just by looking at the XP photo, its not reflecting the cloud color at all. See above.

I'll be impressed when someone delivers a decent sim of something like

Sea of clouds, we call it around here. In the Canary Islands.

Unless you've sat in the cockpit right next to me in the viscinity where I do my flying, you'll have nothing to compare.

But I can show you this one. Final approach onto RWY 01 at my base airport. Bear in mind this image is 1 ½ year old now, since it was taken in MSFS in summer of 2021:

While in XP12 I see this (same time, same location)

Again @filou I have flown this approach hundreds and hundreds of times IRL. Water is def. not this color and hue with an overcast  during summer evenings. MSFS is doing a better job representing what I see IRL than XP12 in this scenario at this airport.
Does that mean MSFS will always look more "plasuible". No, of course not, but that POV has already been established by most of us in here.

I have no bias to MSFS. I registered my account at the .org in summer of 2004. I have stuck to XP through thick and thin, buying EVERY iteration since.

But holy cow you need to be able to call a spade a spade sometimes.

I think we have a different preference, I find MSFS 2020 much too dark and in some cases extremely dark ( Live weather). It ruins the immersion.

At the beginning when I was using nvidia freestyle I increased this phenomenon by darkening more and contrasting even more. But I realized that it was quite the opposite that had to be done with MSFS.

And I'm not the only one who understands that.

And again for me XP12 is much more balanced in brightness in most real weather scenarios.I feel better overall with XP lighting wise. There's something magical about the XP12's lighting.

MSFS wins that one for me because XP12 fails in the water department. Too smooth, too bright, too unvaried, too overdone reflections of shoreline objects.

Not sure if its because of the underlying orthos in MSFS, but I really like the shallow areas around and between the islands. An in general, the mood carried by the lighting fits a late summmer/early autumn day quite well.

grown.  I personally wouldn’t have used the term u turn as that seems to have some negativity with it.

But it’s the truth, Austin didn’t want streaming satellite imagery, that’s a known fact. He rubbished it. And now they’re talking about it. How else can you describe it; changed their minds, switched sides, doesn’t matter, all the same thing.

It does. Otherwise why would people comment about it, not only here but on YouTube. So unless, as you claimed, the guy summarising the video is poor at it, AND the guy on YouTube is the same, or they’re both lying 💁‍♂️

In fact, not only does Austin specifically talk about it, it’s ‘bubbling to the top of the list!’ 1:08:31, see for yourself <<<

I heard them talk about better scenery, and about fixing ortho4xp.

nothing about streaming satellite images.

I mean he is literally talking about it, in that time stamp. I’m not sure what else you require… I’m out.

PS to quote Austin “this whole streaming, 3D world scenery thing, it is bubbling to the top of the list”.

at your timestamp he says "realistic 3D world".

satalite images are not 3D. inserting words that were not said is bad joo joo.

So he’s gonna stream a 3D world is he? Man oh man….. I can see why people don’t come in this forum. Nitpicking.

PS just for you; it’s satellite.

nope, just that improvements to the 3D world are getting to the top of the list, mobiles already stream their (pretty naff) scenery

That isnt a U-turn, its nothing really new, it doesnt mean that orthophoto is getting included by default or even being used for anything other than for things like wed (which already includes streamed esri orthophoto).

Exactly my thoughts as well and why I like that shot so much.

And to be honest I have no idea how that same scene would look today in MSFS due to all sim updates, but probably not too far off ?
But I still remember that flight and how it just captured the mood, as you said. It was almost carbon copy from real life.
