December 12, 20223 yr The RX 7900 series find themselves competitive against RTX 4080 in all tests. The flagship XTX model also offers up to 29% better performance than RX 6950XT that launched at a higher price ($1099) just a half a year ago. Unfortunately, RX 7900 series are unable to compete with RTX 4090 in those tests. https://videocardz.com/newz/first-amd-radeon-rx-7900-xtx-7900-xt-3dmark-timespy-firestrikes-scores-are-in AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler. 60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking. very nice.

December 12, 20223 yr Author "Update: We have more accurate RX 7900 XT scores for TimeSpy. The card performs worse than originally reported. This data is based on the latest driver and averaged from multiple sources." https://videocardz.com/newz/first-amd-radeon-rx-7900-xtx-7900-xt-3dmark-timespy-firestrikes-scores-are-in "First, the RX 7990 XTX will reportedly feature 96 RDNA 3 Compute Units (CUs) with boost clocks ranging from 3.3 GHz to 3.6 GHz. The card is expected to pack 24 GB of VRAM, a 384-bit bus, and a memory speed of 24 Gbps. The leaker thinks that, with 192 MB of Infinity Cache, the RX 7990 XTX will be the only RDNA 3 SKU to employ 3D V-Cache. Finally, the RX 7990 XTX will allegedly have a 405 W TBP. For comparison's sake, the RX 7900 XTX has the same number of CUs and VRAM, but the card can only boost to 2.5 GHz and has 96 MB of Infinity Cache at 355 W TBP. So if the RX 7990 XTX materializes, we can expect a notable performance bump vs the RX 7900 XTX based on the clock speed improvements alone. As for performance targets, Paul suggests that it won’t be surprising if the refreshed Navi 31 beats the RTX 4090 and even the RTX 4090 Ti if Nvidia has planned such a board for the future. It is pertinent to mention that the RTX 4090 has only been on the market for less than two months, so it may be too early to talk about a possible RTX 4090 Ti. Therefore, take the rumor with a giant grain of salt." https://www.notebookcheck.net/Revised-Navi-31-based-RX-7990-XTX-RX-7950-XTX-and-RX-7950-XT-with-up-to-3-6-GHz-clock-speeds-and-3D-V-Cache-could-be-in-the-works.671239.0.html Edited December 12, 20223 yr by turbomax AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler. 60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking. very nice.

December 12, 20223 yr I'm not overly surprised. I've always had the impression that MSFS performance has been lower on Radeon cards than what you'd expect from looking at the typical 25 games average rankings. I remember around 15% advantage for Nvidia in MSFS with RTX 3000 vs RX 6000 series cards that are otherwise on par. This has improved a bit with the evolution of the drivers and MSFS itself over time, but Nvidia still has a slight edge in MSFS when comparing cards that perform similar on average, take a look at this Hardware Unboxed video: https://youtu.be/VL5PXO0yw0M?t=644 - the 3080 is 7% ahead of the 6800XT on average, but 16% in MSFS. This is a bit ironic though when you think about it - the Xbox is entirely built on an AMD platform, and it's been one of the big goals to bring MSFS to Xbox from the early development, still it's better tuned for Nvidia GPUs. But if you the price is right, I don't think there's anything wrong with AMD GPUs in general. I got my 6700XT at MSRP in the middle of the GPU shortage / scalping hype in 2021, so it's been really good value, all things considered. Also I have the feeling that MSFS performance has improved a good bit with DX12 on my system, so maybe this is where AMD can catch up. The MSFS benchmark @odourboyposted was done on DX11. (Still using DX11 because the RX6700 series cards have vertical line visual artifacts in cloudy conditions, 6800 and 6900 series not affected) Anyway, we all know MSFS is hard to benchmark because there are so many variables, location, weather, traffic, server issues, which all may not always be reproducible, or even favour one or another architecture to some extent. I'm curious to see more benchmarks of the new RDNA3 cards, but as it stands, I might as well go for the 4080 when the prices come down a bit... I'm in no hurry for now 😉 My simming system: AMD Ryzen 5800X3D, 32GB RAM, RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB, LG 38" 3840x1600
