December 29, 20223 yr Hey guys, For those of you who have an Intel 13900k, I am thinking of getting that processor . What are your thoughts? Is it a great choice for MSFS? And, can it be overclocked? How far did you overclock it ?
December 29, 20223 yr Yes I just upgraded from a 8086K (8700k) that was overclocked to 5.1ghz on all cores. Right now I can say that the change wasnt worth the cost. With a 3090 its only marginally better. Yes it can be overclocked. I still have some things to work out though as although my bios is saying my overclock have stuck, CPU-Z is saying something completely different. It may just be a bug with cpu-z and if it is, then I can definately say a 13600k or 13700k would have been a better choice given the upgrade cost.
December 30, 20223 yr I'm envious of people who have it - It clocks way higher than the 12700K I just bought less than a year ago. (It fits in my Z690 though lol!) Then again, the AMD 7 series X3D cpu's are coming soon.... I'd be curious to see how well those do | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
December 30, 20223 yr I have the i9 13900K and the RTX 4090 and together with everything maxed out, I'm getting unbeleivable frames around 110fps and gosh! it is smooth as running water. CPU is clocked to 5.8ghz on P cores and 4.3ghz on E corees. This was an upgrade for me from the 12900K which I could only get to 5.2ghz. I'm really pleased with the i9 13900K which I run with the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420 ARGB. The combination works extremely well but I'm considering runnning my first custom loop to tame this beast. Get it...Its worth it. December 30, 20223 yr I have a 10900K and a 3090 system. It is overclocked exactly as per the guide generously provided by the late great NickN. No small task. It requires great attention to detail. But as Nick said its a safe overclock and the system will not die prematurely as a result of it. You can have a stable overclock with good temps and your system will still be dead in a year if its sloppy! My CPU runs at 5.2Ghz all the time on all cores. I have every thing maxed out and manage my FPS with Vsync and display refresh rate. Leaving DLSS 3 out the 4090 is not much better than the 3090. I get frame generation from my 55" Samsung 4KTV which interpolates 1 extra frame from every frame received from the GPU. So at 30hz I get a perfectly smooth 60fps on screen and for 24hz which I use the most I get a very smooth 48fps on screen. I'm a year and a half in on this system. 4 years to go before the next.🤣 Edited December 30, 20223 yr by FBW737 Intel Core i9-10900K at 5.2GHz, Corsair H115i PRO, ASUS MAXIMUS XII HERO Z490, G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 15-16-16-36, ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3090, SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2 2280 1TB x 3, Corsair HX Series HX1000 Watt PSU, Pimax Crystal LIght.
December 30, 20223 yr I went from 10900KF/3090 to 13900K/4090 (full specs in signature) and I have seen as much as 170 fps in the cruise with the Fenix A320 in MSFS. At the other end of the spectrum I don't think that I've been lower than 60-65 fps at Inibuilds' EGLL, running PSXT/RealTraffic. Absolutely amazing what Frame Generation does! As for the overclocking bit I went as high as 6.2ghz when stress testing the system after I built it, but for the moment I have settled on 5.7-6.0, all depending on system load. I've done it this way: - disabled 8 of the 16 E-cores and set the remaining 8 at 4.6 Ghz - disabled HT - the P-cores run at variable speeds, based on load. 1 to 4 cores loaded 6.0, 5 to 6 cores loaded 5.8, 7 to 8 cores loaded 5.7 With this configuration I typically (in MSFS) see core temps around 65c, the 4090 around 55 to 60c. December 30, 20223 yr Instead of disabling cores and HT, which makes buying such a processor kind of an odd decision, use an affinitymask (which DOES work) and let the P-Cores with its HT run the simulator. I didn't buy a 13900 and not even a 13700 because the performance gains from the 13600 versus their price and power consumption make no sense at all. All my 20 threads are enabled as they help a lot making the 13600 the incredible processor it is and for MSFS, which does have worse performance and microstuttering with the E-Cores enabled, i created a powershell script to start the simulator and set the simulator's AffinityMask some 40 seconds after it started (i didn't find a way to do this right from the start with a windows store-app such as MSFS). Why 40 seconds? Because i found out that the simulator crashes if you do it while it's "booting". Setting the mask a few seconds later has the same effect and it no longer crashes. If anyone is interested: Invoke-Command -ScriptBlock {cmd.exe /C start shell:AppsFolder\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App -FastLaunch} Start-Sleep -Seconds 40 (Get-Process FlightSimulator).ProcessorAffinity=4095 4095 will be the mask in my case, 6 cores with hyperthreading enabled. All the E-Cores are not used by the simulator and the smoothness is just perfect. Save this as a .ps1 file, put it anywhere and run it to have the affinity mask set 40 seconds later. Fast Launch is also enabled for a faster startup. If you dislike the powershell window coming up, you can start it from a batch file like i do (put the batch file in the same folder where the .ps1 file is): cmd.exe /C start pwsh.exe -WindowStyle hidden -File startsim.ps1 Sorry about the hijack, i like to make sure i have the best use for the hardware i buy and don't go overboard when not required. I have 90+ fps while flying in absolute smoothness and only in poorly made airports does it dip below 50 while still being incredibly smooth. The 165Hz GSYNC monitor also helps. December 30, 20223 yr FWIW, if anyone else has strategies or ideas for maximizing MSFS performance on a 13900K (or similar) such as OCing one or more cores, HT, disabling or throttling non-essential cores etc., I'd love to hear about them! December 31, 20223 yr Hi, I received my new pc with i9 13900 and 4090 just 2 days ago, and for the first time I put the new msfs. I can tell you that I set everything to ultra, TAA, so NO frame Generation, rendering 130, tlod 325 , lod 200, supersampling texture 8x8, terrain shadow 2048, in flight with the Diamond 40ng g1000, I do in cities with photogrammetry from 38 to 50fps with cabin view and slightly cloudy weather, and msfs real traffic. I tried it on Rome , newyork, london and the fps are about those, then if I go up in altitude or move away they remain fixed at 60 because at the moment I haven't figured out how to set the TV to 120hz. How about the fps I get, they are good given the graphic settings what use and cpu and gpu that I have? I use the Nvidia one as an fps counter, but I would like to use the one I often see in videos where it shows more info, I just don't know how to find it, where the use of the maintheread also appears but I don't know what it is, because I would like to understand if I'm at the limit and in what.
December 31, 20223 yr If you will buy your new cpu only for msfs 2020 then you can consider amd 5800x3d. It gives nearly identical performance to 13900k for msfs 2020. Just my two cent. C. Uygar Aircraft Maint. Engineer. at LTFJ

Hi, yes I will also test this with dlss, for now I'm trying without it to see how it goes. A few hours ago I bought the 737 pmdg and I'm trying a bit, wow at the fps level it's great! Anyway, about the fps reporting what I said before, is it good as numbers? Regarding dlss, dx I just set it from the simulator to 12, while hags what is it? Thank you all for the considerations and I wish you a happy new year!!
