Good question. I'm on vacation away from my computer now, but reading this I wonder why it's only mentioned to the beta testers

Probably to make sure it doesn't break anything, or the handling of the data is specific enough that it requires AAU1. I would be totally confident that it's coming if you're not in the Beta, just when AAU1 is formally released and out of beta.

AAU1 is meant to release this month, so maybe they didn't think it would be needed to push to live right now since everyone will get it anyways.

Next sim update includes the Scenery Gateway system (from memory). Is it that?

no the next update is the Aircraft and Aviancs Update.

Generic airports are always updated with AIRAC cycle.

He said Sim Update, the first update is an AAU update, not to be confused with the Sim updates. 🙂
They are also mentioned separately on the road map for 2023.
