MSFS's 10 year life cycle

I said the overall profit/revenue of the MSFS engine, even if it is a wild success, is still a blip in Microsoft's overall profit/revenue.  It can be a golden egg and end up being a cash cow, but Microsoft is such a large company, it can still be negligible in Microsoft's overall profit/revenue. I just explained to you how the Frozen franchise was a golden egg and ended up being a nice cash cow for Disney, but the Frozen franchise is still probably negligible in Disney's overall profit/revenue because Disney is such a big company with many lines of business.

And no, where did I say this is Satya's pet project? Satya probably has hundreds of projects to look over, of which the MSFS engine is just one project.  Most likely, there are other exec(s) above Jorg, who are overseeing MSFS directly.  I don't think Satya is overseeing MSFS directly and I never said that (geez, you seem to make so many assumptions with my comments, I think you need to read more carefully).  I said Satya and Jorg have plans for MSFS, but that does not mean there isn't another exec(s) above Jorg who are overseeing MSFS directly, perhaps Satya hears an update once or twice a year about the MSFS project.

First of all I do not need to read more carefully, if you notice, I made a lot of assumptions because your whole post was a lot of assumptions... Sort of my entire point.

My writing is very concise. I did not say what you assumed, you just made the assumptions. And when I say MSFS is a possible golden egg, and if it succeeded that it can become a cash cow for Microsoft, but at the same time, even if it wildly succeeded, it can be a small blip for Microsoft's overall revenue and profits, because Microsoft is that large of a corporation with many lines of products of many lines of businesses.  There is no inconsistency with that statement.

Possible, If, If are all assumptions as are all of your comments about Satya and being dumb to cut it...

But sure, your words were concise.  I can use very precise language to make assumptions as well but the fact remains you are talking about possibilities, if's and a CEO's "smart decisions" to make.

It's not even on the XBox top 50 most played in a gaming division that is down YoY.

Opinions are great and I respect your right to have yours but data drives business decisions and I am saying your post is more opinion than data.  Hence it being more emotional than based in data or actual business numbers none of us are privy to.  Sorry if that doesn't align to you being concise.

I am also not saying MSFS is doomed by ANY means, I am merely saying let's keep the discussion real and in doing so also recognize the Blackshark technology is available to others...  MS didn't invent a Golden Goose here they are leveraging 3rd party technology to a fairly massive extent.

Meaning that this year, MSFS is almost 1/3 into its supported life cycle.

Arent you over 10 months too early with this thread? It was released 18th August 2020. So a third of 10 years will be over in November 18 this year. 😉

Again, you have to combine all that technology into one package, including clouds, real time weather, oceans, etc, and that is what Microsoft/Asobo have done.  Also, while Blackshark has the AI technology, what about the data? I would be very interested to know who owns the data and who has the rights to use all that satellite and photogrammetry data, but it's obvious that Microsoft was able to procure the data and legally use it for MSFS. Does Blackshark AI have rights to the satellite and photogrammetry data for the entire world, including the right to use it?

You realize that Microsoft has some ownership of Blackshark AI, right?

So yes, Microsoft stands to gain if Blackshark AI does well.  This investment by Microsoft into Blackshark AI is also a clue that Microsoft sees the value of a 3D simulator of the entire world (ie. the value of the MSFS engine).

That's not what you asked.  You asked if Blackshark had the rights.  They do.

What does MS being an investor have to do with anything?  Blackshark took that investment and developed a non-exclusive product now offered in UnReal.  Lockheed could very well build the same streaming telemetry into an ACTUAL simulation of the full earth which is what P3D already is.  It is not a flight simulator it is a scenario trainer from underwater to ground operations to flight to sub orbital.  They now have the capability of doing all of that in UnReal with the same Blackshark technology as MSFS regardless of MS being an investor.

You do realize the difference between being a VC investor and having exclusive rights to the technology right?  That would take an acquisition.  But do please keep moving the needle to explain things to me...

You asked what data is there to prove that Microsoft sees the value of the MSFS engine and will continue to invest in MSFS? That investment in Blackshark AI is a huge sign of proof that Microsoft sees value in the MSFS engine, LOL.

Like seriously, you have a horrible aptitude for business. One the one hand, you say that Microsoft may drop MSFS anytime. On the other hand, we see that Microsoft is investing money into Blackshark AI, a sign that they like the direction that the MSFS engine is going, and an indication of what Microsoft sees as the future.

Like seriously, you have a horrible aptitude for business. One the one hand, you say that Microsoft may drop MSFS anytime. On the other hand, we see that Microsoft is investing more money into Blackshark AI, a sign that they like the direction that the MSFS engine is going, and an indication of what Microsoft sees as the future.

I have a horrible aptitude for business?  Like seriously?   How old are you that you would think to insult someone like that?  Especially the guy with the race car that his lack of business aptitude has afforded him in his avatar...  Sure, no business aptitude is what allotted me my success in life.  We are done now.  Ignore list for you and your speculative drivel.  You conflate facts with dots YOU are connecting.  Show me where MS says their belief in the MSFS engine is WHY they invested in Blackshark.  Show me the FACTS not your opinion.

Don't ever speak down when you don't know who is on the other end of the keyboard sir.  And stop with the BOLD to prove your point.  Investing in Blackshark means they believe in Blackshark period, anything beyond that is an assumption.

Do you really want to get into a VC discussion with me now and what investment means?  You realize MS could have "other" uses for Blackshark technology as well right?  Lest we forget MSFS was built off Bing not the other way around.

No, I will speak down to you because you have been speaking down to me the whole time.

Like I said, Microsoft investing in Blackshark AI, along with the development of the MSFS engine is a huge sign that they headed in the direction of mastering the technology of a 3D simulated world.

BTW, it was you who originally replied to my first post, not the other way around. I didn't ask you to reply to my first, post, you did it of your own choice. Expect pushback if you are going to be so patronizing to me in your replies.

Would it be possible for you two to take this "mine-is-bigger-than-yours contest" to private DMs? The rest of us are not interested ...

No need, ignore feature is wonderful and has been used I just won't stand for someone who knows nothing about me hurling personal insults about my business aptitude on a flight simulator forum.

There is a difference between challenging someone's post which is sort of what the forums are for and insulting someone personally and hurling insults because they disagreed with you.  The whole Ad-Hominem thing really gets under my skin 🙂

I like the cool way Xplane 12 uses a bazillion 'tree' icons to represent the forest way down below. But MSFS makes everything look so realistic, where's the fun it that?

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.
