Long Shutters

Featured Replies

Hi,

For a few days I've had the problem that MSFS has been hanging for a very long time.

Sometimes it hangs for 5-6 seconds and then it continues.

Otherwise it runs relatively stable with 45 FPS (5800x3d & RTX 3080)

The trailers always come very sporadically.. Usually after 6 minutes.

Then again and again every 10-20 minutes.

It hangs for a very long time, 5 or 7 seconds and then it continues.

I've only had the problem for 2 days, I installed MSFS about 3 weeks ago and it's been working fine so far.

I don't know where to start ? why these jerks are suddenly there

Welcome to Avsim

Does it happen everywhere with any aircraft ?

Supposing it does, be sure that your graphic parameters are not too ambitious, specially the Terrain LOD which can bring havoc in some heavy populated areas.

Check also that the traffic is at a reasonable level.

Then empty the community folder of any addon to check whether one of them is not causing the trouble.

That's interesting with airplanes.. Because I actually only had the problem with 737 from PMDG.

I'll try Fenix today.

Otherwise my settings are adjusted.

I usually have 45 FPS (locked)

There are no stutters because my settings are too high..

It also happens at 45 FPS that it just stands still for 5-6 seconds and keeps going

This has been happening for me since msfs was released. And others. People confuse it with stuttering. It’s not, it’s just one big hang.

Anti-virus. Most stutters in regular intervals are caused by anti-virus. Check if all MSFS folders are excluded.

If it's not the MSFS folders themselves I can only think of FSUIPC or Volanta autosave function. This will also lead to regular interval stutters if those processes / folders are not excluded by anti-virus.

As said, 99% it's anti virus.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

I did extensive testing w/ Defender's realtime monitoring and it has no negative impact on performance whatsoever.  That also goes for Geforce Experience.

It’s not stuttering. It’s freezing. Lasts way over 3-4 seconds.

For what it might be worth, I have been using Webroot for years now. It doesn't require exclusions and has never caused freezes on XP or MSFS. As always, YMMV.

That's what I meant. Long stutters / freezes. Had that with FSUIPC autosaves and my anti virus scanning the folder those were saved to.

Ah yes another thing that could cause this I indeed USB devices disconnecting / reconnecting or going to sleep mode. I actually had that to with one device, my USB port didn't deliver enough power so it went out every once in a while for a short time. I bought an external USB hub with external power and plugged it in there and gone were my freezes.

I  have used Webroot for years, and it is the best AV for gamers.

That with Volanta is also a very interesting tip.

Because I activated Premium a few days ago and automatic backup.

I'll disable it and try again

Disable sleep mode or power saving on all usb devices and all hid devices in the device manager. That eliminated 90% or my stutters and sound crackles etc…. MSFs doesn’t like usb disconnects.

that's all been checked Ian, this afternoon I reverted back to an old NVidia driver uninstalled wx force, re installed the Fenix , fs realistic and FSTL . completely wiped out all audio drivers and started again , it seems only to happen in flight and high ish altitude , at the minute I've turned of IFR FSTL maybe its the spawning off the airborne AI ! who knows
