Cockpit Views - Need finer control

Featured Replies

I use the hat switch to look up / down /

etc and two buttons to translate fwd / back and up / down. But the MSFS controls settings are far too coarse to adjust easily. I also use FSUIPC and SPAD.neXt but can't find a setting that works there either. Does anyone know how to get finer view/eyepoint movements?

Thanks!

@bbuckley do you use the hat switch to "continously" move your head around or to jump to saved views?

Just to explain: I created specific views e.g. for the overhead panel, FMS, Radios, EFB etc. and mapped them to buttons on my hat switch. So clicking UP on my had switch will not move the view UP as long as I press it, but jump to the saved overhead view (so translating the view is also not needed in this case)

Yes, there are some settings under "SmoothZoomTime" in cameras.cfg and (check/search SDK doc) that you might want to try, it takes some time to get it right. I would start initially adjusting the speed you looking for for the respective keybinding and then should be no issues translating to the hat switch or other button.

Do these settings actually work? As far as I know, I couldn't disable transitions by setting Transition=0. I don't have any hopes...

Yes, unfortunately, the documentation is not so good. As an example disabling a setting 0 might not do it and you need to use -1. I didn't disable transitions so I can't say for sure but try -1, I know it's a guess, but maybe will help.

No luck. I tried changing SmoothZoomTime in both aircraft specific and the overall camera.cfg files but nothing.

Looks pretty exotic... and a little pricey.

There are of course 6 translation button commands to move in out up down right left. Yes they all move too fast when I put them on my joystick. But there are axis commands that do the same thing, only more gently and slowly.

I  have a spare CH quad that I don't use. It has 6 axis levers that can be assigned. I assigned 5 of these axis the same movement views that the mouse does by default (using the same commands that by default are assigned to the mouse).

1 lever axis is zoom in and out (the same command that is by default on the mouse wheel).

2nd lever axis is pan (rotate) up down.

3rd lever axis is pan right left.

(all 3 of those are the same commands as done by the mouse only they provide infinitely better control. Not so course and drastic as using the mouse. A smooth and slow and gentle glide.

4th lever is translate axis up and down.

5th lever is translate axis right and left.

It took a half hour to set this all up because I had to adjust the sensitivities on all 5 axis to make them behave smooth and nice.

---------

The only reason this works ergonomically is that I don't use a yoke (I use a stick). Therefore nothing is directly in front of me except the keyboard and the CH Quad. A Quad off to the side would not be so handy to use.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

I use the mouse, then have one setting on my yoke that returns the view to standard.

Same. I tried a lot of different settings. It just doesn’t seem to be connected.
