Cockpit exposure.

Ok, you convinced me. 👍
I finally understood that this anomaly is no longer an anomaly, it's not a bug to fix, on the contrary it's an advantage, a good thing, it's realism!

But why do you keep complaining about the cockpit then only show us (awesome) screenshots of scenery and clouds?

  • No, just no. This is a major issue which makes the simulator borderline unusable especially if you are flying an aircraft with a large dark-colored cockpit. I'm genuinely disappointed that Goran

  • These are the two sides of the same coin. The core of the issue is that the scene has such a high dynamic range that a single global exposure that's applied to the entire scene is not enough to produc

  • @Bob Scott I think you'll agree this one has gone way too long, complete with veiled insults from efis007, and into such irrelevant territory, that it may be time to slap a lock on it.

Thanks...thanks...thanks... 🙏 ... now I am aware that I have an ultra-realistic XP11 that generates gorgeous dark panels (ultra-realistic of course!) like XP12.  🤗🤸‍♂️

Maybe something else is going on with your setup because none of my panels resemble the images you posted.

When you go to a restaurant, do you judge a dish by the list of ingredients, or by the taste?

Umm, YES!  Absolutely!

If THAT'S your analogy, then you've just contradicted your whole argument.

Gotta say, this is one of the most entertaining threads I've seen in a while.

I have parked the default cub facing the sun with clear skies.  The eye adaption can be seen working as my virtual head moves.  I am in the correct seating position with the FOV set for that position / monitor size.  This should be producing these dark cockpits, but I see nothing but a beautifully bright and contrasty scene both inside and outside the cockpit.

in VR its just so much wow, Cub is really VR friendly to, in some places maybe the edges of your peripheral vision get a bit too black in 2D, but in VR that just makes the brightness outside that much more intense you have to squint for a second, its divine.

This all really reminds me of when VR first came to xplane, and there were tons of threads over and over complaining the C172 was far too small.. A lot of noise from basic misunderstandings, and people begging for sliders to increase the FOV of their headsets to make it look more like they were used to.

_____

fawning over how vast an improvement it is already to one side, if the opportunity for further improvement of sim wide lighting boat hasn't already set sail, it will do very soon. I personally hope the dont nuke it, especially VR, but I would be fine/happy with the eye adaption at 22 seconds in that video being closer to that of a few seconds before.

Can't please everyone, all the time.

Just another persons opinion.

Yup. Desktop simulator. Majority of the community agrees it's too dark regardless of what we are hearing from a few here. I understand what they were attempting to do but as flightdeck2sim said "It does not work well on a desktop simulator".  I couldn't agree more.

Majority?  How many people have you surveyed?  What are the percentages?  We need figures and facts.

I'll be eagerly awaiting your response, because if it's as you say it is, I'll be more than happy to go to Laminar with the figures.

It still his opinion. He just flies the aircraft as close as possible to the real aircraft which is where his opinion is most valued and not in designing the sim.

Seems to be his professional opinion that in using a simulator and moving around the views as he would scan in RL, finds that the instruments get too dark when any of the outside is in view-  I surmise as compared to his muscle memory perception in RL.  This is the "reality" LR should strive for and I think are making progress in doing.

If you go outside the bubbles of these forum where the same couple of users keep insisting it is fine/realistic, you'll find the majority of users you ask will agree it is too dark.  Goran, I honestly think you know that. Even the developer of xplane knows that. Many of the biggest fans of x-plane will tell you that. I saw the stream where Austin said, "the numbers are correct" but they are going to adjust it. I don't care what the luxmeter says, if it does not translate well to the monitor.

We know what they were trying to simulate but it does not work well.

Yes. And you don't even need to be a professional to know this.

Please provide a link.
I know Austin and I know what it takes for him to change anything. So I would like to see EXACTLY what was said.
You can’t just say things like “The majority…” without backing it up, just because it fits your own narrative. Provide hard and fast sources, then we can have a discussion.

I don’t mind if things are wrong. But so far, all I’ve seen in here are opinions, and an incredibly drawn out thread about shadows and lighting. This thread should’ve been over in 1 page. Instead, we’ve got a person who keeps trying to make the same point, over and over again, in different ways. And no one’s mind is changed.
One persons opinion is no more important than another’s. To suggest the opposite, is extremely arrogant. Some of us think the lighting and shadows are fine. Some don’t. Can’t it be left at that??
