Video: New Flight SIM PC Build for my Dad

Featured Replies

All,

I hope it is ok to post this here? I wanted to share the following video of the new PC I've built for my Dad, replacing his much older PC so he can play the latest Flight Sims... specifically Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.

Reading this forum and the advice whether to get the Steam or MS Store version of MSFS was very helpful, thank you!

That's awesome!  Hehe I have a logitech surround system like that but mine is the really old Z680 - I use it for my home theater speakers upstairs 🙂

Thanks ryanbatc! I wondered if someone would notice them 🙂.  You probably know this already, but for anyone else these are the Logitech z5500 speakers.  I also have the Logitech Z906 speakers, which I will probably setup for my Dad... although in reality I can't hear much, if any difference between them.  That said, the sound of the jet noise in the room, particularly from the Hawker Hunter is incredible!

seems he has deserved it with that level of your devotion. normally it's the other way around: fathers do this for their boys, well done! 👍

VR will be the ultimate immersion, I fly nothing but VR.

if it doesn't work, the gun by the chimney is ready !

AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090,  Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

Since your father wears glasses: if you are planning for a VR headset make sure to get prescription lens inserts instead of using your normal reading glasses for more comfort and to avoid scratches on the VR lenses.

haha, that's a great comment thanks turbomax 😂 and thanks for the kind words too.

I've been wanting to build him a new PC for several years but until recently he could only get 3Mbps as there was no fiber to the property.

However, that all changed recently where he now has 150Mbps.

Regarding VR I keep hearing great things about it so I'm looking forward to trying it out with my Dad soon. Please do consider subscribing as I'll post a video about it when I get one.

What a great video! He was long overdue for an upgrade. Super editing! Had Logitech speakers also for a long time. Will be fun to do multiplayer with your Dad!

Thank you Lawrence, it is very much appreciated! 👍

I also appreciate the multiplayer offer too, I'll mention it to him when we next speak. 🙂

Yes, you're right! I noticed I did this at the time. Thankfully, I didn't apply much pressure before readjusting my hand position.

Appreciate the kind words 🙂

What a good son you are! Thanks for sharing the video!

Most of what is said on the Internet may be the same thing they shovel on the regular basis at the local barn.

13600K + 4070ti -- that's a good landing spot, you are not spending $$$ for excess cores and you're getting into Frame Generation with the 4070ti.
