Server Issue - Again?

Featured Replies

I cannot not even load into "live data" MSFS. When starting MSFS and it comes to the final opening screen I get immediately the warning message "Your connection had an issue while streaming data, you have been switched to offline mode". I have no other connection issues (at 450 MBit/s) Anyone else with this problem (here in Central Europe)?

As you can read it's a mess.

Back to normal after regenerating the "hosts" file. Not sure it that was the issue. Anyway, all good now. Thanks

What do you mean ?

PS I had the message yesterday. I don’t know whether it comes from MS or my ISP failing to deliver though

Stop with changing everything on your computer.  It's a server issue.

Yes some don't have issues but there are days Germany and the Netherlands and other regions have severe issues.

The investigation is already started as you can read in the official forum.

If your hosts file is still default and never used map enhancement there is NO need to touch your hosts file.

Yes and we know some don't have the issue well be happy about it.

Sometimes it works flawless and another day it's a mess

Then it's back to normal because there are no issues at that moment.

Your hosts file is faulty or it's not.

There is no in between.  Together with a team we made a lot of traces and analyzed them with Wireshark and at those moments when the bandwidth error is there it's at that exact moment there is no response from the servers where Bing data is located.

Sometimes when the loading is slow we also see many retries on tcp level which makes it slow.

That's all I want to add.

And feel free to change everything at your side but it's not a client issue.

For me it started yesterday again. The sim gets stuck on "checking for updates". The only way I can continue is to disable the network at that point and the sim continues to load to just before the menu. Then I have to disable the network again momentarily and the menu launches.

After I finish a flight the sim also gets stuck going to the menu which is solved in the same manner. It seems to me the servers do not respond to requests from the client which causes the client to wait forever for an answer.

With these workarounds there is a good change to get flying but once in a while I get a low bandwidth warning as well. I have a good book lying around for these occasions since there is no workaround for these, not with the other issues at the same time anyway.

Starting with an empty community folder does not make a difference, even Safe Mode does not solve this. I have never ever used the maps enhancement, config files are back to original.

This is for Microsoft to solve, on their end.

I assume Nemo is using the Google maps replacement (or has used it in the past) which fools MSFS to use Google instead of Bing for its sattelite data. The hostfile can be regarded as a replacement table for all your PC's traffic to the internet and can be edited so applications think they are communicating with one server while in reality they are talking to another.

The risk is that not only sattelite data is redirected but other requests from MSFS might also be redirected to Google which could cause all sorts of issues.
The problem with editing the hostfile is that it not only affects MSFS. That file redirects ALL traffic from your PC including your browser, windows update, online banking etc. In this case it is used to hack a function of MSFS but it can also be used BY hackers.

In this case, the issue is most likely caused by Microsoft themselves. Either the Bing servers cannot cope with traffic or some of the servers are not reliable.
While some have had issues before SU12, it seems to have exploded after the release of SU12 so it might have to do with the optimisations Asobo has made to the startup process.
