ATR: I am the only blind pilot?

Recommended Posts

I have no trouble flying all the other planes ---default and payware. I am able to see all the dials and numbers clearly. The ATR panel, however, is the only one which forces me to squint in order to see the airspeed or any other text while I am flying. Unless I magnify it to an unrealistic size, I might as well fly without an instrument panel.  I am surprised that very few people in this forum comment on this. Is it only me?

@flyforever I second your observation. Dialing in an ALT or SPD or worse a DH makes me poke my nose into my display...

100%

Especially setting an ALT. The font is so light and hard too see. I’ve given up on using it in VR as the eye strain of trying to read it is fatiguing. Non-VR I have to pop out the PFD panel and it’s readable. But I really love VR flying. So maybe this plane isn’t best for that.

I'm in complete agreement on this one, I'm using the right alt popup more than I ever have.

I am a stickler for fonts matching the real plane. But I think a couple of things could help:

Make the screens bigger. In the real plane there is no gap between the PFD and MFD. No idea why they did that in this version and, while a small difference, it would make the screens larger.

Make the font heavier (bold.) At least it would make it more readable (like in the CJ.)

The VC / panels / text is way to dim.

Much like all panel back lighting is missing?

Agreed!  Maybe it would be nice if the altitude setting value was a visible popup at the knob when tuning?  Keep the display as the real plane.

I agree with both brightness and size challenges reported. I remember the QW 146 released for FSX and/or P3D was a nifty little airplane, but the readability of the gauges/font was ultimately my reason for leaving it in the hangar, despite my love for it. Sadly I‘ve only gotten older and my eyesight worse 😉

Not just the ATR, the Caribou needs squinty eyes too. On the flip side, Black Square gauges are easy to read. Maybe I’m getting old.
