A quick thanks to WT and Navigraph

Featured Replies

I've sung my praises before in the screenshot forum for the Longitude/TBM and other WT avionics - but I wanted to say it again here.

Today I picked up the Navigraph ultimate sub once again.  Standalone charts for me aren't a huge deal as I have a number 2 monitor and in the past have used skyvector and FAA plates for USA flying.

But since I'm doing a lot more flying in VR, and WT and Navigraph have integrated their charts into the G3000 and 5000, it was getting harder and harder to say no!  Wow -the integration is done very professionally.  It's intuitive for usage as well.  I've now got a very detailed (maybe not quite study level but darn near) business jet, with as much automation as I'd like (or option to not use it), georeferenced charts, textual metar, nexrad and weather radar, in a complete package - and it's not a slowtation haha!  Additionally the install of the Navigraph applications was simple (and I benefit since I still use XP12 along with other MSFS addons like PMDG and Aerosoft - as well as upcoming addons that I cannot mention).  Their new charts app is really slick - it's vastly nicer than the last version.  It's got a nice GUI, and is also intuitive.  I'd only hope for better VFR sectional charts but they are fine for now.  I heard it can be popped up in VR via the toolbar and I'm about to try it now.  I just wanted to share a few images of a quick flight I did near my local area with small explanations.  So thank you WorkingTitle and Navigraph for this collaboration!

Departing KRST I pulled up the AFD which shows my physical location on the chart (also an excellent reference to make sure you're on the correct runway!)

There is weather on the nexrad so I pull the Flying Cloud metar to check it out - we'll need an instrument approach with mins above 600 ft

Approaching the Minneapolis area we do have a line of moderate rain that I was briefed on prior to departure from Rochester

Confirmed it here on the nexrad (there is a known bug with radar at this time otherwise I would have shown the real radar display)

I end up shooting the RNAV 28L into FCM almost down to mins using VNAV and APR mode.  And if you don't want all the fancy Gee-Whiz stuff you can still fly VOR to VOR using the needles!

The Longitude has nexrad?   How accurate is it?  Is it the "sorta there's rain here" and not that exact type of radar?

I gotta get into that plane now that it has all of these goodies, I have never loaded it even 1 single time -- ever.  At least the CJ4 I have flown a bit.

They've finally added back charts to the G3000 and G5000? I thought it was still in beta? Or, I guess you could be in the beta program, too! Either way, I'm very much looking forward to having them back in those suites.

Edit:
Nevermind! I just went to Navigraph and saw that it's out!! Along with a simbrief flight plan import feature!! Man, these guys are awesome! Looking forward to finally wrapping up my work day so I can check it out!

NEXRAD is always slightly delayed in the real world (~ 5 minutes), so it wouldn't be heavily relied on with weather you need to divert through.  Those cases require an onboard radar for real-time returns.  Inaccurate NEXRAD reliance has killed pilots, who mistakenly assumed the display was current and descriptive.  So it would be difficult to even assess NEXRAD data in the sim because the dynamics of a storm can change rather fast and a phenomenon called anomalous propagation will show green returns but the air is actually clear.  From my limited time in the NEXRAD capable Garmin-equipped MSFS aircraft, it's a rough display of weather, but not very precise.

WT is one of those special pluses that make MSFS what it is.  Once again MSFS has a leg up on this kind of great development support.

If you can name another sim dev team with the provenance of WT then I can assure you that they are devoted to MSFS.

WT will go down as a legendary dev team in the history of flight sim, what they done is nothing short or spectacular and to think it has only just begun is the crazy part!

Ryan,

I did a similar thing last night in the TBM AFTER I figured out (someone else figured it out, I finally read about it) the z-newlight mod for the TBM was preventing the PFD's from working. I spent a bunch of time testing the new Navigraph chart and Simbrief flight plan functionality in the G3000. I flew several legs from airport to airport loading a Simbrief plan for each, the airport layout chart for taxi, and the approach chart for destination for RNAV and ILS approaches. The TBM flew each leg perfectly, making precise turns for each waypoint, VNAV descent was perfect and respected each altitude constraint, and then the AP flew each approach type perfectly flying localizer/LNAV and GS/GP to decision height for simple manual control to the runway.

When I first energized the bus in the TBM and the screens came to life I just thought WOW!

It had been awhile since the last time I flew the TBM. Now with the free TBM enhancement available in the MarketPlace together with this Navigraph/Simbrief integration it is upper-end payware grade and such a joy to fly. Flying around northern MI from Oscoda to Gaylord, Gaylord to Harbor Springs, Harbor Springs to Traverse City, and finally to Empire was a memorable experience. It's a beautiful area to which I've been many times, and to see it from the executive cabin of the TBM safely flying itself on AP was really magical.

Hats off to the folks at Working Title and Navigraph for giving us some nicely refined aircraft and superb integration! And thanks to MS/Asobo for having the good judgement to bring WT onboard!
