New licence details for p3dv6 on their website

Recommended Posts

I read the latest LM update regarding their new licensing schema and I positively welcome the change. I think this provides more flexibility to all P3D users.

I will say no more, because there is still a moratorium in place with discussing P3D licensing details in this forum! 🤐

Do they still offer the Developer License for $10 a month?
(Sorry, I'm too lazy to click the link 🙂)

Yes, for the professional version--but the dev license for the Pro Plus version goes up a whopping 150% from $20 to $50/month, and the license pricing for all previous versions of P3D will increase to reflect the same pricing schedule as v6--$60 for the Academic, $350 for Professional (a 75% increase from the previous pricing for v5 and earlier versions), and $2750 for Pro Plus, and $10/mo for the Pro developer and $50/mo for the Pro-plus developer license.  As I understand it, they've grandfathered the folks with developer licenses to the current per-month rates as long as the licenses remain active and don't lapse.  That's an important potential gotcha for the folks who use the Pro-Plus dev version to run complex multi-machine, multi-monitor and/or multi-projector systems.

I'm just guessing, but I think maybe the change to the new "personal" licenses was made to accomodate students (e.g. those in military and civilian pilot training courses who train using P3D) who want to practice at home.

At any rate the new personal license is a welcome development, if for no other reason than putting an end to the endless bickering and jailhouse lawyering that's gone on for years over the current license terms.

I am curious what the internet connection is for. As some say, it may be for weather or navigation functionality, but apparently the Professional version can work in an "disconnected environment". Presumably that version would have as good or better weather and navigation features as the academic version, even whilst disconnected.

Interestingly, I remember reading recently about a new "professional" version of ActiveSky that listed disconnected/offline operation as a feature.  I'm thinking the two are likely related...

Indeed, that would make sense.

The new Personal License option is going to be extremely annoying to the armchair lawyers.
