June 30, 20232 yr Don`t have a problem with always on internet connection, this will be more common in the future anyway to the point you will not need to download the software just an app and stream. MS Amazon and google are investing streaming software though an app. Raymond Fry.

Might be a show stopper for some "The Personal license will require users to maintain internet connectivity during use" The only time that will be an issue is if your router fails. So many household appliances now have smart technology like Netflix, SmartTVs and many other things. Even door bells! 🤣 Quality of connection is down to a country’s infrastructure. Most have reliable hardware. My guess is it’s for licence validation. Not dissimilar to AS requiring you to login before weather can be downloaded. If it frustrates the pirates then well done! 👏 Ray (Cheshire, England). Over the years when game devs have tried always-on DRM, this was a major sticking point. Server down = no play. 1 hour ago, Ray Proudfoot said: If it frustrates the pirates then well done! 👏 This is going to end up frustrating you, a paying customer, just as much. You know how ChasePlane requires you to verify your files every month? Sucks, right?

At sim startup: ok, no flight, lets read a newspaper or do something else 🤨 mid flight...after 1-2 ours...after 3-4 hours: grrrmpf...really annoying ☹️ So the level of disagreement will depend when and for how long an internet connection is needed. A DRM checking at startup is less critical than a cyclic one or - worse - continuously needed content downloads.

Their EULA has always been crystal clear on who qualifies for Academic, I certainly never did, so like the OP paid for the pro version, 3 times. If they finally dispense with that license requirement and get real (i.e.,. stop asking people to pretend they qualify so be in conflict with their on EULA), I would again be open to P3D. Until then, won't touch it again. July 1, 20232 yr In P3D v3 it was possible to turn off the watermark. And actually P3D does phone home anyway (Academic at least), as I've noticed in times of internet outage popup warning dialog from P3D advising of the lack of being able to connect. Easy enough to prove though and to do so I just enabled a log query on my proxy server, which shows the following URL is being accessed when P3D is started, noting the P3D version is 4.5 Academic. Request: POST http://secure.prepar3d.com/solo/webservices/XmlActivationService.asmx/CheckInstallationStatus So doesn't look like it is a new thing anyway ? Cheers And just just to take a further step, the following web services are available at the URL endpoint. XmlActivationService The following operations are supported.
