July 3, 20232 yr I think the 7800x3D is a good option for the OP but the heat issues on the 13900k are somewhat exaggerated unless you’re trying to run bench marks. My CPU runs between 45c and 55c while using MSFS2020 and when I’m flying an event into KLAX on Vatsim with tons of traffic I’ll see it get close to 60c briefly. But I’ve never seen this extreme heat during flight sim or game play. Unless your running benchmarks the 13900k runs at normal temps. I’m using a 360 AIO for cooling and I don’t even hear the fans. No, the highest I've been able to get mine, with Prime95 + AVX test, was in the 80's and that was trying really hard to heat it up. And as said Tj Max is 89 so it will shut down at that point anyway. And it is factual that X3D use very little power compared to....well you know. Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB

I mean, that says nothing in regards to the general notion that it is factually a high TDP chip, that expends a lot of heat and requires a beefy cooling solution to keep in check, which is confirmed by every review under the sun. So running MSFS, which is using a fraction of the CPU's 24 cores, whilst also running frame generation I suspect, a technology that further reduces load on CPU and running the highest tier of cooling available, the numbers mean close to nothing in that conversation. When commenting on a product, it's an overall statement of the entire package, i.e also when actually using the full range of the chip, max load scenarios, using all 24 cores etc., not just sitting in a lower impact gaming scenario. Also with the idea that not everybody is gonna pair it with the highest tier of cooling. Also, people seem to be confusing the comments about it being a high TDP chip with that it should run extremely hot playing MSFS or something -- Where did you read that? July 3, 20232 yr No reason to go with Intel unless P3D is still relevant for you. Every other sim and game that I’ve tested performed better with the X3D in comparison with my old 13700K. July 3, 20232 yr Moderator It seems Bob’s warning was ignored. The OP has enough info to make a decision.
