Hello, so I have been learning to fly the Vision Jet from FlightFX and gotta sat it's a fun plane to fly. One thing I am unsure about is the climb performance. So most of my flights have just been practicing my takeoff and landing, but finally decided to do some flights. So the other day I tried to do a flight from Santa Ana, CA to Boise, Idaho. I was at full fuel, but there was only the pilot on board. I programmed the G3000 with my weights and everything and took off. I think I climb out initially around 150Kts and then accelerated to 220. After passing 1500ft I switched to hold a mach speed of .45. The thing for me was the plane was only able to climb at 400 FPM and I had the plane in FLT LVL change to reach 24,000 FT.

So is this a normal climb rate for these weights? I don't expect to perform like a bigger jet, but this seems a little slow to me. But then again I know nothing of the real plane.

Do you use the autothrottle in FMS mode? If so then FLC should automatically set a speed of 165 kts for the entire climb. 220 kts is too fast for a regular climb in the VJ, hence the low fpm. I just climbed to FL210 at 165 kts and fpm was around 1500 in the end. (That was with 50% fuel or so and only me onboard.)

I had the same experience (do not know if I did sth. wrong) - the vision jet  was very weak in climbing. Best is you do not take passengers or freight with you - then it performs quite acceptable.

It’s a jet but meant to compete with single turboprops, so performance is more on par with a that than a private jet.

I have not acquired the Vjet yet, having too much pleasure with the Hjet.  So.  The one time I had this happen with the Hjet I struggled looking for speed and climb rate.  After about 10 minutes of exasperation I turned to embarassment.  Flaps!   *&^^%(*^(&*  flaps ! !!!!! !!!!!!!!!.  I had not retracted flaps and accordingly the autothrottle kept me in the Hjet's 150 kt. flaps profile, which is 150 kts and throttled back.  My autothrottle profile was for 210 knots, which would have been attained if not in flaps speed profile.

If you were set for 200 knots, did you actually reach 200 knots?

People have already explained, but the climb speed is 165 kias.  So use FLC and it should do that speed.  220 is way too fast.

How can I change the preset speed values in VisionJet FLC mode?  In other AP's you can adjust the airspeed/pitch after entering FLC mode, by using the thumb wheel or buttons up/down.  

But on the VisionJet I cannot adjust the airspeed with the thumbwheel in FLC mode.  The speeds seem to be pre-set somewhere at 165kt for climb and a whopping 195kt for descent and the thumbwheel has zero effect.

When descending from cruise to approach I like to slow down as I approach target altitude.  I could use VS of course but I like FLC for it's control of airspeed.

In almost every jet it’s FLC in the climb to guard against an inadvertent stall and VS / VNAV for the descent, to avoid busting an altitude restriction.

FLC is not used in a descent…

My day job is flying a jet (specifically an E175), and I actually use both VNAV and FLC on descents. 

For the initial part of a descent and on a STAR, we're in VNAV most of the time, but once we get down into the terminal environment and ATC takes us off the arrival, many of the descents are in FLC, since that's usually a fairly efficient way to get down, and it also helps reduce the workload when ATC inevitably wants us to both slow down and descend.
