August 12, 20232 yr So, after: .) having given P3Dv6 a go, finding that it performs poorly at times in my rig (specs in sig) and the FSLabs A319 and 320 aren't available for it, I gave up on v6 - glad I just bought a 1 month license... .) I recently ( this week ) found out that after all the "Concorde" for P3D v5 is about to be available !!! WOW !!! .) I can't wait any longer for the FSLabs airbuses, I simply don't have a viable alternative in ANY of the platforms, all taken into consideration, so.... I am seriously considering buying P3Dv5 and reinstalling: Orbx Global, Aerosoft Madeira X, FSLabs A319 / 20 and buying the SL versions too to get the additional features, namely the tablet , PMDG 777 200 LR... My rig is in my sig, and AMD Ryzen 5600x CPU with SMT ( AMD's HT ) disabled to get the CPU cooler, and an RTX 3060 Ti... I need the best suggestions for: 1) Affinity Mask settings, given that I am staying with HT off; 2) Should I set Anisotropic Filtering to 16; Antialiasing to 8x overriding any application settings, Max Frame Rate, Vertical Sync to Adaptive half refreh rate, all of this in NCP instead of in the sim settings, to force the GPU to "do the job".... BTW, in NCP should I set Threaded Optimization ? 3) I'm going to use Active Sky P3D, obviously, but I wonder if I should enable enhanced atmospherics and native cloud rendering or enable the volumetric clouds? Any hints / suggestions really welcome... August 12, 20232 yr Well, now I have the same rig as yours, including SMT off. The only differences are the OS (I'm still holding to Win10) and drive setup. For each question: 1) If you're staying in V4, do nothing. For V5, this is what I've got: [JobScheduler] AffinityMask=63 P3DCoreAffinityMask=63 MainThreadScheduler=1 RenderThreadScheduler=2 FrameWorkerThreadScheduler=3 3) I use EA, but I never dared to use volumetric clouds. 2) I try to set up everything I can in sim. Somehow, forcing it through drivers does not work, unlike FSX. Currently I have nothing set in NCP, not even max performance. This is what I've got: Anisotropic filtering: 16x in the sim. Max frame rate: unlimited, but then I set a 33 FPS lock in RTSS, using Noel's method for MSFS. Variable refresh rate: ON (in the sim) Vsync: I didn't touch that. However, I enabled G-sync for both windowed and full screen modes, and VRR on in P3D. Threaded optimization: I don't know, I didn't set this up. Antialiasing: one of my biggest dissappointments with P3D. sometimes I set 4xSSAA in the sim, sometimes 4xMSAA in sim + 4xSGSS in Nvidia Inspector. Sometimes I even go up to 8xSSAA in sim, but I'm not satisfied at all. I have a 1080p monitor; maybe that's another part of the problem. Hope this helps. Best regards,Luis Hernández Main rig: self built, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D (with SMT off and CO -50 mV), 2x16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM, Nvidia RTX 5060Ti 16GB, 256 GB M.2 SSD (OS+apps) + 2x1 TB SATA III SSD (sims) + 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD (storage), ID-Cooling SE-224-XTS air cooler, Viewsonic VX2458-MHD 1920x1080@120-144 Hz (G-sync compatible), Windows 11. Running P3D v5.4 (with v4.5 scenery objects as an additional library, just in case), FSX-SE, MSFS2020, MSFS2024 and even FS9! Lossless Scaling for all my sims. What a godsend...Mobile rig: ASUS Zenbook UM425QA (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H APU @3.2 GHz and boost disabled, 1 TB M.2 SSD, 16 GB RAM, Windows 11 Pro). Running FS9 there .VKB Gladiator NXT Premium Left + GNX THQ as primary controllers. Xbox Series X|S wireless controller as standby/mobile.
August 12, 20232 yr An affinity mask is unnecessary with SMT disabled. Volumetric clouds aren't compatible with weather radar in any add-on I'm aware of in P3D, so I leave it off and use ASP3D+ASCA clouds, which I like better anyway. EA on or off is your aesthetic choice. EA does significantly limit what third-party shader mods can do, however. As far as VSync and frame rate limiting, I'm not sure what to recommend now. P3D v5.4 appears to have changed the way VSync affects CPU loading in a fairly significant way, so the old wisdom (VSync on, frame limiter unlimited in sim, NCP 30Hz to a 30 Hz monitor) may no longer apply. Threaded optimization -- I have it off, but can't say I've ever noticed any effect positive or negative. Most of the time I run 4xSSAA. I can brute force things with a 4090 and leave it on all the time, but with your 3060Ti, you'll likely need to back AA off to 2x or 4xMSAA when dynamic lighting is in use. August 12, 20232 yr Author Thank you guys for your contributions ! P3dv5 installed as well as all of the addons 🙂 Back to business, from where I should probably never have left to digress into other platforms that made me waste a lot otherwise much better allocated sim time... August 12, 20232 yr I'm kind of in the same boat. Didn't upgrade to v6, but busy with X-Plane 11 and 12 and some MSFS2020, but that annoying bug with the white frames got me installing Prepar3D v5 again. You could probably trial the use of DSR as it would provide a higher resolution with a tunable degree of sharpness and is certainly good for the purposes of AA assistance, I mostly use 1.78x DL with my 1080P monitors, though I'm not sure who it would function with GSync (as I don't have GSync monitors).
