September 5, 20232 yr FS 2002, 2004, FSX, MSFS. Never in all that time has there been a speaker near my computer cubbyhole. A good hifi headphone is all I wanted. A mic can be attached to any headphone. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. September 5, 20232 yr Author Me neither (speakers, that is). I tended to live in a silent world but my current big screen has a built in soundbar, and even that is turned down way low. Listening to music though is another matter. Good hifi and good headphones required! September 6, 20232 yr I have a 3090 and I keep it quiet with these MSI Afterburner profiles and framerate limit at 48 fps, which is perfectly smooth with GSync. Optimal values for your 3090 Ti may vary of course... happy testing 🙂 7800X3D | 2x32 GB DDR5-6000 CL32 | RTX 5080 | Alienware OLED 34" | 1 Gbps fiber
September 6, 20232 yr Author @MrFuzzy, thanks for that! I will try messing with both those settings today and see how I get on. It'd be nice to get it all acceptable without having to splash out on a 4090, as the performance with the 3090 is pretty acceptable to me if it would just keep quiet! That will lead to premature failure of the components, shorten the life span, and eventually kill it. You are more than welcome to believe that high temperatures and high fan speeds are not an indication of a problem and are not harmful at all. I’m sorry but that’s completely not true. Why don’t you research it instead of posting this? I’m not gonna do the posting of the research for you.

With bigger fans and better airflow? That would help tremendously.
September 6, 20232 yr The GPU fan noise is linked to the GPU quality, fortunately my Asus TUF 3080 it's perfect and has very silent fans. But above all I'm keeping my case open without any fan inside, just the GPU and the CPU ones, this makes my pc very silent and cold. With modern GPUs and CPUs there is no way to make them colder and silent in a closed case. Edited September 6, 20232 yr by Claudius_ Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

There is with a huge modern case rigged with loads of fans. But yeah, I hear what you’re saying. Just be mindful of dust. And modern GPU can handle running at 100% fan load for an extra extended period of time, and it won’t cause issues, other than annoying you with noise.

Verify if you have any problem with your sim install or your OS or your hardware, and don't forget to check the CPU and GPU coolers, because the dust. With an opened or a closed case, the dust is a problem anyway, I clean my coolers every 4 months. Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

If I understand correctly, you don't believe that extended high temperatures on a PC can result in component malfunctions, errors, or even irreparable damage. It is widely known in the PC tech world that excessive overheating can cause high fan speeds and lead to throttling, potentially damaging the computer. That's where "research" comes into play. Interestingly enough, you mention that bigger fans will provide better airflow and "would help tremendously." Wouldn't that help maintain optimal temperatures? At this point, when you dismiss and claim, "That's completely not true". it is pointless to carry on with this topic. 747 Captain for the last 39 years, and still learning.

In fact users that select "silent" fan curves to keep noise down are likely to have a much hotter GPU than, for example, someone that sets their fans to 100% all the time. In the first situation there is a good chance the GPU will start to thermal throttle under heavy load.
