Traffic draw distance.

Featured Replies

Some clever person out there must have found out why traffic in MSFS disappears so close to the camera.  If I place myself at an international airport while using PSXT, the airport is full of live traffic.  However, the traffic disappears shortly after takeoff with only the aircraft lights being visible.

XP12 is very different in this regard. Using PSXT with that sim the traffic can be seen miles and miles away.  When flying in XP12 the sky is full of visible traffic.  In MSFS the traffic can be seen in the Garmin Pilot display, but none of it is visible in MSFS unless it’s very close.

How do you use PSXT with XP12?

You've probably reached the object limit, depending on the airport and whether you used GSX, etc.

Known problem, unfortunately.

Part of Asobo's method to ensure sim good performance is to nix everything outside the first LOD from the user aircraft.

Sorry - XP12 uses LiveTraffic/RealTraffic.

It's for performance, as other's mentioned. I honestly don't notice it. Too focused on flying.

I was using PSXT a couple weeks ago and didn't have this problem. As someone said, you probably reached the object limit. Are you using GSX? I'm not.

A TCAS warning and looking for traffic is part of flying 🙂

No idea what GSX is. My flying is up to TBM 850 size.  I am contemplating the SD 330/360 thgough.

PSXT has it's own way of removing traffic which is on by default.

If you are on the ground the injection limit is 8NM. You can switch the automatic limit off when you are just there for sightseeing, but you should leave it on if you intend to fly yourself.

That is correct. However, that's not what is being described here.

PSXT will remove the aircraft entirely if it suppresses it. In the OP's comment the aircraft model is no longer visible, yet their lights remain.

This is a MSFS LOD issue.

And there are plenty of those. I’m sick of airport objects popping in to view as I am Landing, so immersion breaking. No way not to see it.

Would you rather the performance tank on short final? 😉

Yes, I’ve got between 80-120FPS. Remove 20 of them with a greater airport LOD selectable in the settings is perfectly fine by me. And the issue doesn’t exist in XP and the LOD is perfectly fine with airports there.

Without getting into (yet another) sim vs. sim debate, I agree.
Allowing people with powerful spec PCs to render terrain elements and various objects at a greater distance is essential for improving immersion.

The popping-in of the AI aircraft themselves, their landing gear, taxiway signs, jetways, terminal buildings, higher fidelity ground imagery, nearby city buildings, is all borked because of the aggressive LOD management used by Asobo/MS in the attempt to get butter smooth performance for much lower spec systems.

MS appears to have forgotten this rather handy settings page they used to include in flight sims:
