Give DX12 another chance after SU14

Asobo has anknowledged it in the last Developer Update.

Did they though? Did they actually though? Or are they talking about the other texture swapping bleed issue that has nothing to do with the DX 12 airport one. Every time I see someone claim that they have acknowledged this partictular thing they are really talking about something else.

Then there is probably one setting that got changed when you enabled Ultra that fixes the issue. We need to figure out which one is it.

For me and some others, the "AMD FidelityFX Sharpening" setting was the cause of the flashing in DX12 mode.

I've got a Nvidia card so thought I didn't need this setting turned on so had set the sharpening slider to zero.

Later when I tried DX12 mode and started getting the flashing, I turned off the Bloom setting to fix it.

A few months ago after experimenting with the settings, I found that setting the "AMD FidelityFX Sharpening" back to default stopped the flashing even with Bloom turned on.

I never messed with that setting, it has always been default (100) for me and I see the flashes with bloom ON. Nvidia GPU here too.

Will try selecting the Ultra profile to see if it fixes it.

Hmmm...I tried DX12 on my RX 6800 and...smooth as silk!

Zero stutters or (knock on wood!) disappearing airport textures?

Very pleasantly surprised...will continue to test.

A bit late to this party (travel plans, holidays, colds/flu), but for me SU14 completely breathed life in to DX12, which I'd long since abandoned.  What's changed for me: noticeably reduced VRAM usage and increased smoothness.  Flying in areas that guaranteed to saturate my 3080 ti's VRAM using DX12 are now flyable, i.e. are now no longer saturating VRAM.  I'm guessing a side effect of this is that now my FPS usually is pegged at 48 which is the FPS limit I set using the OXRTK.   The net overall effect of it all seems to result in increased overall smoothness.  I hope this DX12 improvement is here to stay, but seeing the track record on system updates one can never know.  BTW, note that I exclusively use VR with my Reverb G2.

DX12 has been fabulous, even for FBW A320NX which is not supposed to play well with DX12.  Pre SU14 I had to change modes because PMDG did better w/ DX12.  Now DX12 for all.

I am officially using DX12 with my old beater 2070S & I7-10700K with motion blur on low and NO FLASHES. Ya hoooo!

https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/dx12-screen-flashing-with-bloom-enabled/550505/103?page=5

Add dynamic load reset addition to the equation compliments of Reset XPDR and I can get a lot more umph for my rig which I am afraid I am going to be stuck with for awhile.  Great community Thanks

Asobo is a joke  - we paid our hard earned money on this simulation platform and what did we get in exchange ? a subpar simulator that can barely function in DX12 mode, not to mention horrible support, horrible AI system for traffic and much much more.

I have a top of the line machine, and nothing justifies the fact that FS2020 fails to delivery on it. (and no, there isn't a problem with my machine)

Asobo/ MS are following the modern play book of selling software that never really gets past the beta stage: the continual “updates” are presented as if they were signs of commitment and improvement whereas from a more sceptical perspective they are all just ironing out wrinkles that shouldn’t have been present to begin with.

The trouble is … they’re the only game in town. We might not like this new, cynical way of doing business, but the only alternative is to forego a harmless and engaging hobby.

Seriously?

We can provide links to the other flight sims if you need them. You certainly won't have to worry about object popping since there are so few objects in these other sims. MSFS made the decision to try to simulate the real world, not just a "plausible" alternative, and that carries with it some real challenges to even the most powerful gear.

With regard to AI and ATC, I think you'll find many other discussion threads on this and other forums. Such problems can be addressed using online networks like VATSIM and PilotEdge, although these, too, have their limitations.

You pays your money and makes your choices. Good luck and have fun.

Yes seriously - and for the reasons you give! For good or ill, MSFS is the best option. That doesn’t alter the fact that it has quality control issues which are disappointing, given the scale of the enterprise sitting behind it: albeit not surprising, for the reasons I gave in my post.
