I recall having the problem of not being able to make the DX12 setting stick.

My problem was that Read-only was set in the usercfg.opt file properties.

I haven't seen it since this last SU14 update yet and i've been to over 10 airports already. For me, it's gone.

This was just a matter of testing for me, DX12 doesn't offer anything i need really, so i will remain with DX11, same exact quality and way more mature.

Do you have an empty Community folder? If it's not empty, then empty your Community folder (rename the folder if you don't want to delete all the add-ons inside of it) and try again.

Outdated add-ons can cause MSFS to CTD or behave weirdly.

Thanks. I can get it to start now. (Renamed community folder and let the sim build a new one). Now it will not return to the main screen when exiting a flight. Ugh. Anyway, thanks again as I get to look forward to scrubbing through some addons to see what's not playing ball.

Well, this is interesting. My usercfg.opt file had read-only turned OFF, but "hidden" was ON. When I turned "hidden" off, lo and behold the DX12 setting was retained!

Workaround other than shutting bloom off is to turn on the Ultra preset when MSFS first starts up before loading a flight. Load a flight and then start it. Once loaded into the airport, you can go back into options and adjust graphics as you need to include keeping bloom on. Flashing should not appear.

Thanks B777ER for the information.  But I am gonna leave this rubiks cube on the table for a bit go back to DX11 and keep this in mind.  I appreciate it.

Everyone please remember that, when you switch DX versions, you must completely shutdown and reboot the entire sim before the DX changes take effect. Simply toggling the DX settings within the sim and then immediately loading a new flight will do nothing. You'll still be with your previous DX version until you reboot.

You mean listen to that message right after you select the option that clearly states restart your sim...🤪

I have a 4090, and it's been nearly an omnipresent thorn in my side since I returned to tinkering with MSFS a few weeks ago.  If I switch to an outside view (using DX12), patches of blurry Bing photoscenery tile replace some of the scenery tiles in my add-on sceneries.  Turning on dev mode, then deselecting and reselecting "Draw on Terrain" fixes it temporarily.  Was an intermittent problem, but became a persistent pain in the butt.  Have not tried DX12 with SU14 yet to see if it's still as pervasively underwhelming.

Strange, I’ve never seen that. I wonder what causes it only for some people.

Hey B777ER, thanks for this tip.  I was using custom graphic settings, and I always experienced random flashing at night with bloom on.  But I just tried your suggestion and started a night flight with the Ultra preset.  And for the first time I didn't experience any flashing.  None.  So I am going to stay with the Ultra preset from now on.  Thanks.

It seems it just happens when switching to an outside view in the airport, that's probably why many (me included) don't see it. I land, taxi to the gate, power off the aircraft and close the flight. I rarely or never switch to an outside view in the airport, I do it just in cruise.

Then there is probably one setting that got changed when you enabled Ultra that fixes the issue. We need to figure out which one is it.

I am seeing it too with rtx 4090 water-cooled and cpu 7900x3d. Asobo has anknowledged it in the last Developer Update. They have found cache issues and are working on it and they mentioned in that stream that "probably su15" it will be fixed.

I tried and I couldn't get the screen tearing to go away.  V-sync on, off, within Nvidia or the sim, nothing would make it go away.  🙄

No, this isn't true. It happens regardless. I never switch to outside view and it appears anyway.
